CPU: Intel E6700 @ 3.2 GHz
GPU: HD 4770 512 GDDR5
M/B: MSI P45 Neo F (Rev. 1)
RAM: 8 GB Dual Channel DDR2
PSU: 1000W Ultra X3
Default Windows Vista: Home Premium OEM

For the time being, Micro Center, here in the USA, has the OEM version on sale for $79.99.

That's a really good price if you've been considering Vista at all. It's also the best version (from many users I've heard from) for Home Users. Ultimate is just so much overkill with a lot of unnecessary bloat.

Hummm- Yea, i know what you mean... I had vista on my notebook- it worked okay- It was slower than with xp home ... I installed xp becuase i needed to use the stereo mixer (switch on the fly)on the notebook ... I do miss some features like on the fly search and the big icons... It is just a hog, vista....

You can disable the User acccount controls (the annoying dialog boxes)- It was a good idea, BADLY implemented- As is vista on a whole ... lol

Yea, I'm probably going to suggest to him to get xp for his new computer- Vista is still beta - kind of like win ME , no? He really wants to play unreal tournament 3 - He plays 2004 like all the time ... He is really good, "Supposedly" at it.... Headshot anyone?

[P.S. He is playing UR 2004 on my good, old emachine of mine : athlon xp2800 with an Nvidia 6200 - 1GB or RAM- He desperately needs a new machine LOLI hope i can post a thread on some pointers and on my budget- You guys know all there has to be known about Gaming ]

Well, since I doubt the price will come down any lower, I've gone ahead and picked up a copy of the OEM Home Premium 32-bit version. It's installed now, but, I'm keeping XP Pro on a separate HD and switching boot drives between them.

We'll see how it goes. At least it's not a huge investment at this point.

UPDATE:

I realized a little after the fact that I'd installed Vista on one of my slowest SATA drives.

So, I picked up a brand new 320 GB Hitachi ATA300 SATA drive today and 'ghosted' my Vista Home Premium onto it. That part went splendidly well! 1 hr, 13 min and it was done copying around 80 GB onto the full 300+ partition of the new drive.

However, I've done a LOT...and I mean A LOT....of hardware changes in the past three weeks since first installing Vista. So, the De-activation kicked in and I had to go through the Support option to get things back in good standing.

15 minutes on the phone and it was a done deal.

I'm beginning to forget what XP was like.
