i have vista ultimate and i play music all of the time when online.
and i have never slowed down when surfing.
someone is on drugs but it might happen to some people though.
it doesn't happen to me the only time my internet slows is when something is wrong on my isp's end.
or when my modem is going bad.
i have dsl 1.5 mbps that is the highest i can get where i live.
and it sucks it is not fast enough.

i thought i would never get vista either, because i read some bad thing's about it.
so about 3 or 4 weeks ago i decided to get it and try it.
so i installed it and all of the updates and hotfixes in the update window.
and configured it the way i wanted it.
and found more hotfixes microsoft doesn't put in the update window for some reason.
there is about 10 of them you have to track down.
after doing all of this vista is about as good as xp if not better.
the only down fall is i can play only one of my games flawlessly and that is ut2004.
the other games are freezing and crashing all of the time.

and i have vista ultimate on a 3 year old pc that has nothing vista compatible on it except my graphics card geforce 6600 256mb.
i have 512mb of ram, and ultimate calls for 1gb of ram to even boot.
that is a load of bs.
it runs fine, somethings run slow but i understand i need more ram anyways.
and one day i will get another gig of ram.
and a better gpu.

The October issue of PC Format has an interesting article about DX 10. It could well mean that DX 10 is just about to become backward compatible. And, according to the article, we can all thank nVidia for it.

According to the article, nVidia has put pressure on Microsoft to drop virtualized 3D memory due to major difficulties getting it to work on their 8x00 GPUs. If this is true, it's the only obstacle keeping DX10 from working on XP machines.

So, now, instead of it being a 'required' feature for DX10, it's become an 'optional' feature.

Stay tuned.....

The Inquirer posted news about that a long time ago. I still doubt M$ will make DX10 for XP.

Well, FWIW, I don't believe everything that's posted on The Inquirer. But, since it popped up in a very reputable publication, I thought it would bear more weight.
