Hey Macdaddy,

On your music thread i saw that you said you played guitar. I don't play but would like to. I was looking at some inexpensive guits and one caught my eye : the ESP (LTD) H-51. Its a really low end guitar but i wanna buy something cheap as a first try. I am able to get it for 256$CAN.

I would like your opinion.

Thats a decent looking guitar although I have never been a big fan of rosewood fretboards. My Kramer Aerostar when I picked it up in 1988 was also a cheaper guitar but had a "maple on maple" neck. A lot of modifications since then and still serves me well.

Best I think on this a bit and post back been a while since I bought a new guitar myself. Will post some ideas back in the morning but that ESP guitar looks good but no rosewood for me and that is player preference. Vantage has always made a decent affordable guitar and Ibanez has some intro models worth looking at too.

This one didn't come with a lock nut originally and 3 single coil pickups. Added Kahler Standard Series Tremolo with a V Style lock nut, Seymour Duncan Hot Rails at the bridge and a G&L custom bass and treble control mod a few years ago. Airbrushing was done a few years ago and almost 20 years later this is still my main electric guitar ... so any purchase is important ... will post back and attaching a couple of piccys of "my baby"

Thanks for the reply,

I first heard of ESP when i saw that Richard Z. from Rammstein and James Hetfield+Kirk Hammett from Mettalica were using only ESP's. If you say that rosewood fretboards are not good, ESP have a custom shop segment where i could that same exact guitar but with a fretboard made from a diferent wood.

That ESP looks solid in your price range and on the fretboard its preference. What I would suggest is go into a local guitar store you must have a Steve's Music or something in Quebec. Play both types of fretboards and see what you think ... its what your comfortable with.

You may even stumble on one that you didn't check online and love it like I did with this Kramer. Just went into a local shop one day and I saw it all the way across the shop .. played it bought it ...

Happy shopping ang happy playing

Thanx Mac,

will consider buying the model i told you about in a black cherry color or a bright electric blue. I will still look around and see if a better deal might come up @ steve's music.
