Mac Daddy and Eran recommended that I post over here for a problem I'm experiencing.

Athlon xp
512 mb
NVidea geforce mx 4000 128mb 4x/8x

It's a second hand system that was working before I got it home. Installed my HD, CDRom and powered up. Didn't recognize HD, so i intended to image drive, reinstall and run Winternals ERD to manually boot. Connected drive powered up, and instantly maching powered off! Only thing I can think, is that I didn't connect the power wire all the way, and the HD blew. It's dead, no spin no hum. Powered up again, and of course there wa sno HD to recognize this time so got invalid drive error on screen. No problem. Took old drive and installed, powered up and suddenly monitor says "Video Cable Connected?". Oh yeah...after drive died, got 1 long and 2 short beeps...usually video card error from Award Bios.

So I figure the card shorted, so I got the one above. Same error, seated and reseated, wiped connectors, swapped ram into all 3, reset CMOS, reset CPU. All lights come on...I think HD is connecting, it is spinning, but I see no monitor so I really can't tell. Disconnected all peripherals and little addon wires. Still same message. Monito works in a flash on every other computer in house. But no life here. Is there something else I'm missing? My last thought is that the memory stick is fried...do't have one handy right now to test however. Other than that, could the mobo really be gone or is there somehing I can still try? Thanks very much for any help anyone can offer.

This might be psu related or ram. 2 options to try out. Connect another psu and see if it works, if it doesn't try with a different ram set. Worst case cenario, your mobo is screwed. Get back to us soon on this. Welcome to the site!

You need to check every item in your PC at another PC to find which one of the items is making the problem. It can be everything!

Well I'm gonna be nearly certain its not psu, as there seems to be no lag in powerup....and all bells and whistles appear to start. Every piece has been checked, except the memory yet, as I need a similar stick and can't get hold of one yet. So basically I guess I'm looking at the memory, hopefully, or the board...hope not. Any other ideas, just add em . Thanks again
