So, what do you think? are we doomed or is it just another false erl of doom?

2012=fake
It feels like Hollywood made this up to make more money. I really am not sure what 2012 is besides the world, i mean the science behind it. |

There are so many prophesies, from different sources(mayan calandaer, I ching, merlin etc) , that predict the exact same day too, which is something else that sets this appart from the rest.
Honestly ive never paid much credence to these dooms day predictions but this one actally has me a little worried.

#6 | | Master of Disaster | | CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4 | | its not a prediction so much as it is a fact, on dec 21 2012 the earth will pass the galactic equator, which is the very center of the milky way, and there happens to be a black hole there weather or not that has and relevence is beyond me, but I know some scientists think that passing by this 'galactic equator' can cause the earths poles to shif which would pretty much be the end
They say this has happened before but the last time was nearly 800k years ago, so my theory is if we pass the equator every 25k years then this would happen more regularily, but the fact that it has happened means it could happen again, which is also worrysome
As is the way with scientists, some seem to agree and others disagree, no one seems to know for sure what will happen when the earth passes by the equator but it does worry me some, there is just too much poting to this exact event to be ignored

| A prediction, no? They think it might happen. As my teacher thought me a long while ago, thinking is knowing shit.

#9 | | Golden Member | If some black hole is going to suck up our galaxy, I am not going to lose any sleep over it. It will happen or it won't, but if it does, what can you do about it. If I could chose how to die, being sucked by a black hole would be pretty high on my list xD

#10 | | Professional Member | let me please correct you, my worried friend;
earth will NOT go through a black hole, nor through the center of the milky way. our galaxy is a huge spiral cluster of sun like stars orbiting a super massive black hole (sagittarius a*, if i'm not mistaking), but we are thoulsends of light years away from this black hole and we orbit it. just like the earth is orbiting the sun without passing through, we wouldn't pass through duriing the next few billions of years. it is true we will align with the galaxy's axis, what might result in change in the cosmic radiation reaching earth and effect earth's weather for a while. shifting the poles? you need to make the earth's movement to change in order to do so. and even though it happened in the past, doesn't mean that scientist know what caused it.
if it happened 25k years ago and the pre-historic human life on earth survived, I guess we will survive as well...
