Default how do i get a wlan access point working?

Hey guys,

So we got a wii for christmas, i ordered a wlan adapter online, just a cheap little thing from ebay, the manual does really seem to cover how to get an access point working.

Anyways, i got it installed, got the configuration set to access point, got wep turned off, the wii finds the SSID just fine, says its good and unlocked, then it goes to do a connection test and it fails, what am i missing?

Also in the task manager the wireless connection icond for the adapter (ZD121) says "Limited or no conectivity"

Ive never done wireless networks before, i prefer wired, never have problems with wired lol

any help would be great appriciated, thanks guys!

I never used Wii so I don't know what's going on there. But try to check up the settings, channels and try to use security.

well im keeping encription off for now so it does cause problems, its gotta be something on my pc end, the little connection statuse thing always says limited or no conectivity even though when i turn the wii on the signa strenght is reads as very good.

I think maybe its something to do with the gateway or dns, i just dont think the wlan adapter is trying to use the internet properly but i dont know how to get it to go, networking has never been my strong suit, usually just plug it in and it works lol

First thing: Set anykind of encryption. (this will keep people from using your internet)
Then start configuring your router settings - enable your wii access to the router by adding your wii's mac in the router's mac permission list. Remember to put your computer's mac first, otherwise when you apply the settings you wont be able to access your router. (if this do happens you will only be able to access your router by hard resetting its settings - look at the manual for this)

After those steps configure your wii to access your router with the encryption you selected + login. If possible configure the connection to your router using the router BSSID instead of ESSID (bssid is the mac address of your router and ESSID is your network name).

Post some pictures or online manuals so we can get more details to help you.

The thing is its not a router, its a usb wlan adapter that can function as either a station or an access point, its model is ZD1211

I have encryption disabled for now because i dont want problems from it

mac adress filtering is disabled

its set to open system, its totaly open i have no idea why its not working, like i said before the wii finds the SSID, the signal is strong, it shows up as unclocked but when i do the connection test it fails.

What i do ipcofig the gateway and dns for the wireless adapter are both blank, im not sure if thats normal or not, their both set to obtain automatically in the tcp/ip settings

Can you connect to it from another computer?

Well if it's a USB device then it must have a software wizard which automatically configures everything. If you're able to see the device then try pinging it.

Set DNS and gateway to the IP of your "router" then and see if it works.
Its usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.0.
