Default I said: "Welcome back, my dear AMD" ;-)

Long time i wasn't in here :-(

In this time many things at my computer changed ;-) When i had possibility i bought windows vista ultimate sp1 for 30pln in some action made by microsoft, "10 000 vistas ultimate sp1 for 30pln" or somethin like this.

Few days after when i get package with windows vista ultimate (and extras as windows 2008 server 90-day trial+administrator's self-help book) i did book some new hardware ;-)

This hardware is:

Mobo

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H (revision v1.0):

http://www.agito.pl/socket_940_am2/g...65.328797.html

CPU

AMD Athlon X2 4800+ (Brisbane):

http://www.agito.pl/socket_940_am2/a...854.39234.html

RAM DDR2

2x Kingmax DDR2 1GB 1066MHz CL 5:

http://www.agito.pl/ddr_2/kingmax_dd...07.328270.html

When i get package with this hardware and unpacked this stuff i just said with proud and tears of happyness in my eyes: "Welcome back home, AMD" ;-)

For a very long time i was using intel mobo and cpu. It was disaster for me, but... now it is for me only bad past :-)

When i mounted all of it in my machine i started installation of windows xp and basic drivers and software. After it i started to do some benchs ;-) I started from games. Assassin's creed, unreal tournament III, finally works perfect in full detail :-) Bioshock, call of duty 4 don't have big requirements so i just seen only more fps at this both games.

Next was 3dmark03... few minutes of watchin its animations and.... only over 7k points... Have no idea what is wrong with this 3dmark, but it stops at 7k. My mate was doing mark03 and he had at xp 7k too, and what is more "funny" on intel crap i had 7k too...

After this dissapointing mark i installed and run 3dmark06... Benching... Benching... And something over 4300marks.

After it all i installed vista ultimate sp1. Drivers, updates, basic software... bla, bla, bla... And like before i started with games. UT3 works perfect, cod4 same, and now two best: Bioshock with dx10 looks muc more pretty and works faster :-) Same Assassin's Creed, but this one gets much higher boost on dx10 in comparison to dx9. AC is made for dx10 and it is made more than perfect ;-)

After this few games i tried 3dmarks. 03's sound test couldn't be finished on vista but i get over 11000marks. In 06 same like at xp, over 4300marks.

Now i feel much better with this hardware than with this what i had few days ago and i said to myself: "Since today i will use only amd and ati hardware, anything else".

Deeper games on hardware...
Before i started to install any software, os etc. i've seen that ram works not with 1066MHz but with "only" 800MHz. I said: "Ok, surely i can increase clock in bios. I entered bios and there i see many nice functions to o/c, for memory too. I opened memory options, set manual and speeds to choose are only 533, 667, 800MHz, and there is no 1066MHz. So i took in my hands mobo's manual and i read that i can use 1066MHz dimms but only with phenom processors, with athlons i can't. First what i thought was: "Problably bios update can do something with it and i could make memory work with its proper speed."... I've updated bios and i still can't set 1066MHz for memory on athlon x2. I'm dissapointed with it 'cos few weeks before i was mounting computer for my mate based upon some asus mobo, athlon x2 4400+ and patriot memory ddr2 1GB 667MHz and i clocked it to 1066MHz without any problems.

Avoiding this one "problem" i'm really happy and proud with my new machine :-) It is much more then enough for me ;-)

P.S.
In next few days i will change my psu too. :-)

Nice! The whole upgrade looks quite cheap and gives good performance for that price. Tell me why mATX mobo or do you just have a mATX case?

Bude mam normalną, atx-ową,a płyta jest mini atx, bo jest mini atx, a nie atx ;-) Kupiłem to co było w miarę tanie i jak najbardziej wydajne w tym przedziale cenowym.

I have atx case, but this mobo is matx 'cos it is matx. It costs less but have really good performance and that's why i bought it. I didn't have much money for this upgrade and all this parts i selected imo best as i could.

Now i need to find any solution for ram speed problem...

Yep Zamo, playing ut3 with intel crap was really annoying. I love ut serie and i'm very happy about i can now play normal this game. :-)

Morbo, if u think about buy this one mobo for ur little brother don't buy any gpu from serie HD2xxx 'cos it can't work in hybrid crossfire, only cards from next series, like HD3xxx and HD4xxx (with this one i'm not sure) can, so in this same price better buy is e.g. radeon hd3650 or just actually card with best ratio price/graphic performance radeon hd4850.

In this moment i'm typing email to gigabyte with ask about ram speed.

P.S.
I've just reported it to gigabyte and now i'm waiting for an answer.

What is this 'intel crap' I see you speak of? I've played UT and many games based on the Unreal Engine for many, many years and have only used Intel CPUs. (I DO have an AMD system here solely because someone GAVE it to me.) But, I've quite enjoyed many, many games on my Intel-based PC over the years.

DS9:The Fallen; Rainbow Six: Vegas; Splinter Cell series....and many others. So, what's so bad about Intel and the UE?

Gigabyte's guy said that with this chipset can be run only one ram module per one channel with 1066MHz in any other way it is decreasing to 800MHz. What is not true. I checked with just one module and i still can't set 1066MHz, and with two modules set in single channel mode work same way: 800MHz and still can't set 1066MHz.

IMO strange technical "bug" or this possibility is locked by gigabyte in bios. BTW, do anyone want to create modded bios for this mobo? ;-)

@Witek
Usualy for me mid-end gpu which one is 2600xt are enough for one to one and half of year, so now i will change psu and i'm not sure which one of this two to choose:

or this one:
