Default Microsoft gets what it deserves

The European Court of First Instance Monday largely upheld a 2004 European Commission decision that Microsoft has abused its dominant position in the software market.

“This is a great day for European businesses and consumers. At long last, the decision opens the prospect for dynamic competition in the software industry. No more user lock-in, no more monopoly pricing,”

EC: You're a frickin monopoly.
MS: No we're not!
Court: Yes you are. Now shut up, stop the monopolistic BS and pay the fine (all of it)!

After nine years, it's about GD time..
You're next, Intel!

AMD will not likely make a grab for power. And even if they did, they would be as ''monopolistic'' as Intel is right now.

Microsoft is a monopoly and if Intel has become one it is because of Microsoft. Microsoft wasn't the first company to introduce the Windows Platform as we know it now actually they were the third to do so. Apple (Motorola based CPU) was the first and actually IBM using Intel processors was the second with OS2 which Microsoft buried when Intel and MS worked together in the latter 90's.

Who screws who ?

Microsoft as they always have ... who created Windows ... Apple did !!

PPS: When I visited the Chalk River, Ontario Nuclear Power Plant in 1988 in my last year of college 90 percent of the machines were Macs running a windows driven OS

Well this is welcome in many respects. I acknowledge the fact that the industry has benefited from Microsoft's 'leadership' in some respects. But they still need to learn that it can't be "business as usual" indefinitely.

I still wish the judge in charge of the U.S. case hadn't violated procedures. Because that's the reason why that ruling was overturned. It just occurs to me that if Microsoft would just work on the basic elements to the OS, the result might be a really good product. Instead Microsoft is still "lacking focus", and we have half assed products like Vista....

Nice post and yes they have the deep pockets and resources to create the ultimate OS ... yet they don't ... we are force fed what they know in most cases is what "we" will have to use !!

Microsoft deserved faaar more then that, a multiple kicks to the balls of bill gates and all their board of directors is just the tipe of the iceberg of what microsoft deserves.

As per the ultimate OS i really dont think Microsoft will ver make the 'ultimate os' judging from vista their actually starting to go backwards, if windows didnt have its huge compatability base it would be throw asside by everyone, thats all that windows has going for it. Personaly i dont condone paying for microsoft producs
