"Stolen Beer Truck Rams Police Car During Chase

POSTED: 11:46 am EDT July 19, 2007
UPDATED: 3:28 pm EDT July 19, 2007

MARIETTA -- The case of the stolen beer truck came to a head Thursday in Marietta.

Police said the truck load of Corona beer was stolen Thursday morning in north Cobb County.

Marietta police spotted it just after 11 a.m. and tried to pull it over.

The thieves took off and lead [sp] police on a short chase. It ended when the truck rammed a police car.

At one point the suspects pulled into the parking lot of The Cobb Emergency Veterinary clinic on Cobb Parkway [just south of Allgood Road]. One of the suspects ran into the clinic.

Staffers alerted the police and he was arrested.

Ralph Richards and Earl Laughter were arrested at the scene."

Here's another report from the AJC

"Hijacked beer truck collides with police car

By BILL HENDRICK
Published on: 07/19/07
Two Atlanta men hijacked a loaded Corona beer truck at a convenience store on Wade Green Road, starting a 15-mile police chase that ended after they rammed a police cruiser, authorities said Thursday.

The chase down Highway 41 ended after the driver of the hijacked beer truck put it into reverse, ramming a Cobb County cruiser driven by officer Stuart Biggers, said Marietta police spokesman Mark Bishop.

The two suspects jumped out of the truck and tried to get away, but were captured, Bishop said. He identified the driver of the truck as Earl Laughter, 42, of Atlanta, and the passenger as Ralph Richards, 46, also of Atlanta.

Bishop said Laughter was charged with destruction of government property and is facing numerous traffic violations. He also will be charged with "theft by taking" the Corona truck, Bishop said.

Richards will be charged with possession of crack cocaine and also theft by taking, Bishop said.

He said the two were taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Services Center on County.

The incident began when the beer truck stopped at a BP station on Wade Green Road in northern Cobb, Bishop said. The driver was inside when the two men got into the truck.
Cobb police were alerted, and Biggers saw the truck headed south on Highway 41. The truck stopped at the Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic a few miles farther south at the intersection of Highway 41 and Allgood Road, Bishop said.

"It was one of those big Corona trucks with the sliding doors," Bishop said. "They didn't see any empty bottles. We got them before they started to party."

Now, I have to ask, Just how far did they think they'd get with a beer truck with CORONA painted on all sides and the back?

I laughed myself silly. Is it any coincidence that one of the culprits has a last name of "Laughter"???

I can just hear Mr. Richards now: "I did it all for Laughter."
