Default nvidia 7800 GT shearing/tearing in WoW and Oblivion

Hi Folks,

Ever since I installed my 7800 GT card, WoW has run great except I get strange flickering shearing/tearing in areas with certain lighting. It seems especially bad in forest areas of the game where sunlight filters through trees.

Attached is a screenshot that shows what it looks like when it happens.

The only other graphics intensive game that I've tried is Oblivion and I have the same issue there. It is annoying but the games still look great most of the time.

I've tried updating drivers a number of times, the latest that I tried is ngo 1.97.92. I'm running at 1600x1200, but have seen the problems at other resolutions as well. I'm using factory default settings for the graphics card.

thanks,
--Brian

Those are artifacts and generally seen as a result of overclocking the card a bit too much ... usually RAM ... noted you were using stock defaults though ...

Did you make any BIOS modifications after installing the card ? Shadow RAM or AGP settings ?

make sure tempatures are ok.. that was my problem when i had this problem.. you can adjust the agp outlet to solve this most of the time..

go to bios and find something like:

agp - 256.. for example.. lower it down to 64.. this will not alter the preformance of the card (maybe 1 fps)

Might I add that if your power supply is only 350watts.... then your card is not being powered properly. Try it with a good and stable, more powerful PSU before trying anything else.

I use to run my X700PRO system on a no-name 350W and had same problem. Got a better PSU. Then magic. Problem solved.
