Well, it's not the best motherboard (K8M800) for oc , but you can do something. When you oc it, try running Prime 95 or Super pi for minimum 20-30 min and keep an eye on the cpu temp all the time. How far you have gone?

CPU: Phenom II x3 720 @ 3.4
GPU: Radeon HD4870 OC
M/B: MSI 790FX-GD70
RAM: OCZ DDR3 4gb
PSU: OCZ 700w

Well the cpu runs pretty cool, this whole system runs nice and cool, cpu idles at 31 the gpu idles at 38, so im not too worried about heat. But you know ive been using/building/fixing computers so long but i have never oc'd a cpu lol im not sure what guidelines to follow, any suggestions for my mobo? I know its not very oc-able but what do you think i could put it up to? even a tiny oc would give me a lil more performance.

First, there are 2 versions of te cpu. 2.0ghz with 1mb L1 cache and 2.2ghz with 512kb L1.
The first one is better. in your system the memory is big blocker becouse it's allready running at full speed (3200=ddr400). For HOW TO follow the link:

i don't recomend any voltage inc for beginers, this is the best way to kill you hardware.
the best way to do it is in bios. stick with the cpu fsb, and try changing the fsb:ddr ratio (if available) to lower the ram speed. you should be fine around 210-220mhz fsb. post your results.
P.S. Read the warnings carefully.

Ill have to give it a shot and see what i can do, ive got the first cpu(2.0ghz with the 1mb cache) Ill go check the bios out soon i havent really done much with it so im not sure what all it has for options, but hopefully it has the fsb option, i shall see.

Thanks for your help!

Default CS:S VidStress Test up to 58FPS vs. 51FPS w/ Z-tweak 91.47 vs. NGO 93.81

I've been a dedicated NGO fan until I tried Z-tweaked 91.47 - these drivers are significantly faster than NGO.

However, I have noticed that the textures in the Z-tweaked version appear to "resolve" more closer to my position as I move through the game space. What do I mean by "resolve"? The wall & ground textures reach their full AA16X visual quality - transitioning from the lower quality at a closer distance to my position.

Well, with the NGO driver, textures in the game space appear more finalized regardless of the distance I am from the visible surface. I wonder if this is why these drivers are called Z-tweaked.

Can anyone explain what is going on with these Z-tweaked drivers? Why they are so fast?

I am running the Palit 6600GT @ 1600x1200 (windowed) in CS:S & HL2DM and achieving 59FPS in the video stress test. Game play is very smooth. Note the Palit is OC'd at core/mem of 540/972Mhz.

Is there an NGO setting I could apply to match the Z-tweak performance level?

Regards,
jtleon
