#1 | | Newbie | | RAM: crucial ballistix 2 GB | | urgent ngo request Hello, This is my 1st thread. I am a very unhappy 8800 gtx owner, due to compatibility issues and to many things in the driver being forced. While it does have excellent performance, that was not what i was looking for when I bought it, especially since it's at the expense of not perfect compatibility and iq.
If this isn't the right place to make requsts, just let me know, but I imagine it is.
Here's the issues:
I play a lot of dx 5 and dx6 games, and i was wondering if ngo could add back the strings in their future drivers that will allow those games to play properly. I believe they've been missing since the 70 series drivers.
The 2nd, also due to the fact that i still play a lot of old games, I'm very bothered by the 8800 gtx's driver not rendering 16 bit color internally at 32 bit like ati and matrox do.
I don't ever expect nvidia to fix this, so the ngo driver team is my last hope. older games shouldn't be worse on future hardware, they should be better. I'll greatly appreciate if the ngo team can look into incorporating these two features in a future ngo driver. |

#2 | | Newbie | you could simply buy yourself a pretty old computer to play those games, unless you want to have 20 000FPS! DX6 is pretty outdated (1998 and less I think) so what's the point buying a 700$ video card to play those game
excuse me for my english |

excuse me for my english | Not what I wanted to hear.
I don't want to run it on an older pc, and older pcs will eventually stop working and it's too hard to find an older pc.
The 8800 gtx should play all games and play them as well as anything else.
Anyways, I thought ngo drivers were supposed to be about quality and compatibility, so does anyone know where I can send my requests to? Please, my life depends on it. |

Anyway, does the ngo driver team take suggestions? If so, could someone tell where I can go on this site to give the ngo driver team my suggestions? i'd be really grateful. |

Regeneration is the one who codes the drivers and if he has feedback he will post it
On your feedback most appreciated and nice to see you here on NGOHQ.com anything off the forum you can always contact me at dmack@ngohq and will forward to other staff ..
Cheers

#9 | | Banned | err, no Regeneration makes some changes to the inf, Nvidia codes the drivers.
secondly, i don't know where you get the idea that ATI drivers render everything internally at 32bit? thats a very wrong idea,, ATI drivers render things as they are reported to the driver.
the fact is, that with the evolution of video cards, sacrifices have to be made, certain changes to the driver to support 1 technology (Dx10) will have a negative inpact on older games (dx 6, 7, 8) while the biggest known change is the lack of Paletted textures, Nvidia works around this by rendering games that use these, via Shaders the downside is, the method is flawwed as it strips the alpha bit (it uses 8bit textures with an alpha channel) that games like FF8 and Thief have various issues with effects, now you may not ave noticed, but ATI also disabled 8 bit paletted textures, a good while ago, the only difference is the way they have emulated this effect does a better job, the problem nvidia have in fixing it, is that only 2 or 3 games ever really used palettized textures, and they have more fitting issues to fix.
FF7 also had this issue and someone found a way to fix it by making a hi-res texture pack... sadly the same person didn't make one for FF8.
lastly, if you are using Vista, then this will indeed have slower Dx 5+ as fixed functions are now emulated via Dx9 shaders, which will have a great impact on thier performance.
this isn't something Regen can just fix, its the driver code at fault, not the inf, there isn't anything missing in newer infs that were in older infs, so simply put, this is not an issue Regeneration can just fix :\
sorry. |
