SiNNiNe, I'll take it as this is something that I've been screaming to NVidia about for a year and have as yet to get any sort of response from them. The answer is multi-fold, but step one is to say that in my experience it is NOT always necessary or even a good idea to update video card drivers.
Take NVidia's chipset drivers; there hasn;t been a new NF4 driver in a year and there probably won't ever be because they are done..as good as they are going to get. Now, graphics card drivers are obviously a much more complex environment so the same rules do not apply absolutely, but they do in theory. I found through lots of testing that NVidia had created the highest performance, most optimal driver for their 7-series of cards with the 91.47 version. Whether I use the factory ones or the NGO custom 9147's I get about the same performance, but the image quality is obviously better with the NGO's so I use them. I've tried the next couple of WHQL releases from NVidia and my performance drops significantly with each new version. NGO had a custom set of one of these which offered better image quality of course, but again I lost performance compared to the 9147's.
I cannot possibly imagine why NVidia would need to offer an updated driver for XP and 7-series cards at this point, but the claim is always that they offer 'better compatibility...', 'better support for...', etc. All I know is that instead of 14MB they are 55MB, I have to use that retarded, bloated CP, I have to install NTune or some other 3rd party app to overclock my video cards, and of course I lose more and more performance with each new version.
I truly cannot imagine what their game is, other than continually slowing down previous card versions in a pathetic attempt to motivate folks into buying newer cards. If anyone can shed some light on this issue, please do enlighten us. Thank you in advance! |
