Default The newer the version the better?

Well Im just wondering. As the new versions of forceware are released from nvidia and then Regen turns them into Optimized ngo drivers, do these drivers come with completely updated drivers for each card. Or is it the same stuff with just newer coding for the new cards. Cuz Im wondering whether I should bother upgrading if these new versions are not even coming with more support and stability and a performance/quality increase. Which i get from the ngo optimized driver of anything (gotta thank regen for that and anyone else that might be with him). And i keep going to nvidia.com to check if they are releasing geforce 7 series updates for windows xp 32bit, and nothing. So where are you getting these new versions from. I figure they are just the 8800 series drivers right? Meaning that these new versions of ngo nvidia optimized drivers are newer in the sense with the increased support of newer cards and maybe perhaps some bugs or glitches are fixed from a previous version. Any takers?

Station-Drivers: le site de drivers, bios, firmwares, ect...

You can find modded inf to work with your card here (note that this ones are modded only to support your card):

SiNNiNe, I'll take it as this is something that I've been screaming to NVidia about for a year and have as yet to get any sort of response from them. The answer is multi-fold, but step one is to say that in my experience it is NOT always necessary or even a good idea to update video card drivers.

Take NVidia's chipset drivers; there hasn;t been a new NF4 driver in a year and there probably won't ever be because they are done..as good as they are going to get. Now, graphics card drivers are obviously a much more complex environment so the same rules do not apply absolutely, but they do in theory. I found through lots of testing that NVidia had created the highest performance, most optimal driver for their 7-series of cards with the 91.47 version. Whether I use the factory ones or the NGO custom 9147's I get about the same performance, but the image quality is obviously better with the NGO's so I use them. I've tried the next couple of WHQL releases from NVidia and my performance drops significantly with each new version. NGO had a custom set of one of these which offered better image quality of course, but again I lost performance compared to the 9147's.

I cannot possibly imagine why NVidia would need to offer an updated driver for XP and 7-series cards at this point, but the claim is always that they offer 'better compatibility...', 'better support for...', etc. All I know is that instead of 14MB they are 55MB, I have to use that retarded, bloated CP, I have to install NTune or some other 3rd party app to overclock my video cards, and of course I lose more and more performance with each new version.

I truly cannot imagine what their game is, other than continually slowing down previous card versions in a pathetic attempt to motivate folks into buying newer cards. If anyone can shed some light on this issue, please do enlighten us. Thank you in advance!

I have a 7 series card, the 7950gt. And you say you've done testing. Have you ever done testing with this card? Because if you have id like to do my own tests now once i fix up certain problems i am having with my computer. And I understand your theory because it seems logical that theyd stop focusing their efforts on older card performance and compatability. It only seems logical to assume that NVidia doesnt give a rats ass about older models since they dont have to! It seems that all they care about is the new stuff like their 8800s, 8600s, vista support.. blah blah. It seems more to me that they are taking business steps because NVidia is a business and theyre all about the money. Its no wonder why they have shitty technical support, because no where does NVidia state that they offer 24/7 customer service so NVidia just goes for the minimal. And regarding these performance losses, I can agree that as i keep upgrading to these newer versions I cant help but notice that i had way better performance back then with the 9xxx because i remember when i used to play F.E.A.R. and CSS, the performance didnt lag as much.

Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to test with a 7950 card, only 7600, 7800, and 7900 cards. I wish that I had info for you, but maybe you can add your data to mine to help complete the 7-series picture. Good luck!
