found this at guru3d:

Changes to Support List
Since ATI has removed total driver support for any Radeon card below 9500 at Catalyst 6.7, this driver doesn’t support any card below Radeon 9500 (7000-9250). This release also doesn’t support any mobile GPU due to these limitations. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about this. This driver now supports every ATI Radeon GPU from 9500 series to X1950 series.

so,i am assuming that it DOES NOT support the mobiliy radion x1600

hope this helps, and yeah, it sux. have acer 8204 laptop, and have to use their lame ass drivers. lol

Hmm, does that mean that from now on, NO NGO driver will ever support any mobile ATI card?

That would be a real pity

I'm not at all an expert in this field, but I've read that there are tool which allow you to install a "normal" ATI driver on mobile cards, and I know that the latest Omega driver (based on 6.9 AFAIR) also can be installed on mobile cards.

So actually I'd assume that there is a way to make it install, but maybe I'm totally wrong here...

However, before I uninstall my current driver, I'd like to ask one last time:

will the new NGO driver work with a ATI Mobility 9600/9700 card, or can I save my time?

thanks a lot, and have a happy new year !

We will add support for Mobility 9500 and above in the next release.

Thank you very much for the fast reply!

You don't have any ETA for the next release, do you?
Well, probably after the next ATI release I guess...

As I am pretty eager to update my drivers, is there a way to apply this 'patch' that allows you to install normal ATI drivers on mobile cards on your latest driver package?
So I (and other update-o-holics) wouldn't have to wait until the next release

I guess no answer means 'no', right?

I am afraid it does Bro not as simple as a "patch" on the NGOHQ drivers ... they are reworked and recoded. Can't speak for Rege but I personally know he takes time, care and pride in coding our releases
