Default TV resolution issue...

Okay, so Im not sure this is the problem, but it was working fine til an updating of drivers and software. This is my issue...after my current specs. (attached pictures will help describe)

Current Drivers : NGO Optimized, 1.6.4 (latest)
Current software : ATI Tray Tools, 1.0.5.880 (latest)
GPU : Radeon 9800 pro 128mb.

Current issue :

My isse is pretty simple, but far from easy. I output my display to my TV using a S-video cord. This allows me to use theatre mode, which I do a lot. I love being able to watch a movie and chat with friends at the same time, however, since I upgraded (at least, I THINK it has been happening since I upgraded), my output resolution on my TV is lowered...Hmm, maybe pictures will help.

My desktop resolution is 1280*960, and my TV native is 1024*768. When I output to it, using theatre mode (stretch to fit OR maintain aspect ratio), the resolution LOWERS itself to 720*480 (which ATI tray tools, and within the TV options refers to as 'video mode - for low resolutions')

Now, my question is this : Why would it LOWER itself, when obviously it was working fine a while ago, and two, how the hell do I fix it?? Its not HORRIBLE but its enough to make me wanna shoot myself when Im watching subtitled movies, or anime, and everything gets cut off. Regular movies arent TOO bad, however, Im missing a good inch in all directions on my TV. Once I turn OFF the movie, the resolution on my TV returns back to 1024*768. So the issue therein lies that the problem is 'theatre mode'.

2 attached pictures.

You can see that my TV resolution is in fact 1024*768...however, when I open a movie....

Youll notice that the resolution decreases to 720*480. (Big question mark added for confusion effect :P) When I turn it off, it goes back...

Hopefully you guys can help me out here.

Thanks a lot!

I use my TV OUT all the time and have never encountered this. So, I have no idea what could be causing it. I use 1024x768 all the time.

I might be mistaken but thats why its trying to reduce. SVideo has its limits and I think 1280*960 far exceeds it. Change your desktop resolution to 1024*768 and try it just for kicks

THanks for the suggestions, however, I have tried that a few times and to no avail.

Basically, if youve ever worked on an old machine not capable of higher resolutions, youll notice that if you bump it up farther than its supposed to go, youll have to scroll the screen using the cursor, basically not giving you an entire viewpane. Usually thats what happens on my TV while my desktop is in that setting.

If I set it back to 1024x768 on both, it STILL defaults to a lower resolution. I guess Im gonna have to roll back the drivers to an earlier version and see what happens.

AFter switching left and right, downgrading drivers, I realized that the drivers I had before I updated were the NGO v3.5.6 beta from way back when. Apparently, after upgrading to 1.6.4 the old folder was still left (allowing me to know WHICH version I had). After uninstalling 1.6.4, installing 1.6.3 (didnt work), uninstalling 1.6.3, installing 1.5.13 (didnt work either), uninstalling it, and spending LITTERALLY 1 hour trying to find my old 3.5.6 beta exe somewhere on the internets, I finally found it, installed it, and LO AND BEHOLD!!

It works. Flawlessly.

Theatre mode no longer defaults to video mode (for low resolutions) and Im finally able to watch my movies and anime in peace...thank fucking god.

NGO -> PUT A FREAKING COPY OF IT ON THE DOWNLOADS PAGE OR KEEP AN ARCHIVE. ITS NOT HARD TO STORE OLD COPIES OF YOUR PROGRAMS!!!

Is there a need to shout ??

A post on Feedback regarding archives might be an idea Bro and I am sure the staff here will take it into consideration. Why ?

Because NGOHQ ultimately solved your issues with previous drivers .. and I know Rege likes to help

Don't shout man ask K
