Default Readback Speed Enhancement

I've been experimenting with the NGO driver and an X850 XT PE PCIe, using ArchMark to get readback bandwith results (ie, testing GetRenderTargetData in DX). Sadly NGO does not appear to change readback performance. Having read a few comments around the web that poor readback performance should be a driver issue, not a hardware issue, I was wondering if any work had been done in this area, or if it might be done in the future?
