Default PCI Latency tool

Hi guys - Im a noob when it comes to tweaks and things but was wondering....

I have a 9800Pro 128Mb card and when i installed the NGO driver 2.5.8 there was the option to instal this tool which i did. I read tat it recommended setting 64 for AGP cards??

When you start the PCI Latency tool it shows a heap of things but more interesting

VGA Compatible Controller (VGA) ATI Radeon R350 .... = Latency 255
Display Controller ATI radeon R350.... = latency 032

What the hell does this mean and what should it be?

Also is there an easy way to tweak the performance - remember i know bugger all and are afraid to kill the card by doing something dumb...

Any help is appreciated guys

Thanks for reading.....

We decided to include this handy tool so you could adjust the PCI latency in order to avoid PCI bus choking. It helps optimize performance and resolve stuttering and sound issues. It's recommended to set latency values to 64 for all your PCI/AGP Devices. This tool doesnt support PCI Express cards.

PCI latency timers are a mechanism for PCI bus-mastering devices to share the PCI bus fairly. "Fair" in this case means that devices won't use such a large portion of the available PCI bus bandwidth that other devices aren't able to get needed work done.

if the latency is already set at 32, leave it there

change any device that are higher then 64 to 64

if its set lower then 64 then there is a specific reason for it

Great idea - so I a pretty safe setting the higher than 64 to 64? Like the 255 etc....

I think you should use 64 for everything.

no dude, trust me,.. if a device is set at 32, its becoz it takes to much latency at anything higher

PCI Latency is the amount of the delay. 32 is sometimes too low.
