Default driver issues....

i just put together a new system, my first scince i put together my Athlon XP when it was cutting edge.....
i got a AMD X2 4400+, coming from a XP system i was truely expecting to be blown away. well i cant even play through a game without crashing. i have a EVGA 8800GT vid card, and have tried quite a few "Factory" drivers. all start to stutter and then hardlock the system. but 10 mins ago i got lucky and a message popped up to tell me the driver had malfunctioned and a reboot was needed. i looked around and found i am not alone in this problem. anyone have sugestions??
here is my setup if it helps.

AMD X2 4400+
Win XP PRO W/SP3 (32bit)
EVGA 8800GT (dual slot cooler)
150 RAPTOR
650WATT Mushkin PS
BIOSTAR N750A Motherboard
2 GIGS GEIL EVOONE MEM

i am not running overclocked, nothing is overheating, everything is factory settings so far. i have the 175.16 drivers running right now, but have used a few others and they all do the same thing. i used the nvidia driver cleaner between changes and all drivers and patches are installed.
thanks for any help.

if you have access to another machine try swaping out the video card, also if it's 2x1GB of ram remove one and see if that makes any difference. You may also want to get an application like Everest Ultimate and monitor the voltages to see if the PSU may be having issues. There are just too many variables to say its this or that without testing

i only have my AGP machine, all my voltages are showing ok, and both sticks of ram memtest perfect. i tried using the modded drivers from here, but i recived a message saying no supported hardware could be found??
never saw that one before. i tried using the Nvidia 169.21 drivers and they installed fine. kinda strange. could it be the pcie 2.0 vs. just pcie?

yes, i have the AMD driver installed. i tried again to install the NGO drivers last night and got the not recognized error again. but i installed the DNA 169.04 drivers and so far everything is working fine. i was able to play games for several hours without locking up.
will keep everyone posted if things change.
thanks,
bri
