Default ATI RADEON 9250 PCI 256MB

Need advise on whats the best version of drivers for my card.
Got the first driver CATALYST® Version 06.11,pre-r300_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_38185.exe from ati amds autopick driver page. Even the simplest games get choppy and Im having problems galore. So went looking to a 3D site but got very confused.
The NGO ATI Optimized Driver versions their said that after 6.6 they no longer support my card. They also said that ATI's version 6.11 don't support my card anymore. But thats what I get from ATI.So what version of ngo drivers do I use.

Your video card is no longer supported after the 6.11 version of Catalyst Drivers. There's no reason to be looking for anything newer. The 6.11 drivers provided some retroactive support for pre-DirectX 9 video cards but mainly for AGP versions of the cards. I'm not even sure they had PCI versions in mind when they did this.

So, although I'm not the authority on it for NGO drivers, I'd be very, very surprised if there are any newer versions of any NGO drivers that will help your card perform any better. It's a very, very, very old video card. PCI just doesn't have the technical ability to do what the newer video cards can do.

I'm not looking for better just drivers that work.I just bought this card last year. The bios is dated 2006.The card is still for sale at stores.I know its not the best or as good as the new ones but it is a 256 mb card and ati so here I am.TRYING to make it work.I'm going to try older Ati drivers I guess.I just thought that if I needed to use older drivers I might as well use NGO drivers. But didn't know what version covers my card.

I have no argument with anything that you've stated in this post. However, to be very blunt and fair about it, just because a card is still on the shelf, or even though it may have been made just last year, last month, or even yesterday, does not mean it's the card you should get. Everything depends on just what it is you intend to do with the system you're putting this card into.

First of all, it's PCI...not PCI Express. PCI is capped at 33 MHz BUS speed. AND, that's one way at a time. It doesn't matter if that card has 256 MB, or 1GB (if they could put it on there) it will NOT perform any faster than the BUS on which it's installed.

Secondly, it's a DirectX 8 video card. That means that almost every game made in the past five years or so is going to have to be run at the DX8 settings. That is, if the game can handle it well at all.

To sum it all up, this card is meant only for those who want a display that provides enough support for browsing the Internet, maybe watching a few animations/videos online, and even perhaps a DVD movie on their PC. It's not -- and never has been -- a good 3D game video card.

If you want to play games on this, you may have to check out the bargain bins for Final Fantasy III - V or games made in that long ago era.

This is just facing reality.

Good to know. At least now I'll know what to recommend to anyone else hanging onto those grand ol' PCI cards.
