Let me tell you that the X700pro i had is about the equivalent to this chip and didn't have these problems, so it's not because his laptop is weak, on the contrary.

hmm, what do ya mean with full screen or wide screen?

the FTF screen has a native resolution of 1280x800, which is 16:9 I think.

I finally managed to get the screen to scale the picture if I run a game in a non 16:9 resolution. I mean if a game runs in a resolution loke 1024x768, not I do not have those black bars at the sides anymore, but the graphics card/the TFT (don't know what controlls this, I guess the graphics chip) stretches the picture to fit the entire screen.

Anyway, this does not solve my problem. And to ur question about my screen resolution. I mean u seem to be kind of an expert concerning this topic. But what does the size/resolution (I mean the diff. btw. 4:3 and 16:9) has to do with the performance of my card.

Can u explain that to me?

Or do u know how to fix my problem? That'd be awesome

ROFL ... well that does NOT fix m problem entirely .. I mean I know that I can lower the resolution ... but an X1600 (which was tested with exactly the same Laptop running Quake 4 and Doom 3) should run fluently with both those games, expecially since I doubled the RAM ...

So I need suggestions what might slow my graphics card so much ... I am no kiddy, I know that I can lower the resolutiuon if a game stutters ...

I'd go for a rebuild firstly and take it from there. Remember the latest drivers etc.

Hey,

From what i've seen on these forums is that even though its a site mostly dedicated to graphics cards etc, hardly anyone knows about how to troubleshoot anything and just turn to Reg. for advice (you guys need to learn some stuff!).

Did you buy your laptop from a well known company? If so they'll have put a load of crap on your laptop which you dont want. The easiest way to sort this is to reformat and install the things you want, or you could just go through the uninstall list and chuck off anything you dont use or dont want e.g. Norton product etc.. *shudder*.

I'd try the latest drivers from ATI, 7.5, they might resolve the problem you're having. Also make sure your laptop's speed isnt being limited by the power saving feature in windows. If you just bought it it'll probably have windows vista on it, if it has format and install XP it's better at the moment.

Also try this guide to Optimize windows XP: here
