The Fall of Rage3D
Posted by Regeneration on January 6th, 2007, 01:36 AM

There has been some bad news about Rage3D circulating over the last 24 hours. Apparently it seems that most of the Rage3D staff has left the site. The reason behind it is the lack of activity and support by the two owners. I must say that Rage3D has really disappointed me in the last few years and more so recently. I remember Rage3D as a big ATI support site with a lot of useful information, big forums and tools. But recently even we(NGOHQ.com) have more to offer. Rage3D is not functioning like a true ATI support site (They even have a huge Nvidia advertisement there) because of the owners.

Recently we’ve heard rumors that most of the active staff has left Rage3D. The site is owned by two partners but the main operators are Mark “Ratchet” Throne and the other staff. They write the reviews and do the work not the owners. So from the rumors around Mark and the other staff were unhappy due to lack activity from the owners themselves, and left. So basically this means that you will no longer see a lot of activity on their site and that’s really bad news. Especially when there aren’t many ATI fan/support sites out there !!

It’s rumored that some of the staff have tried to buy the site from the owners but the owners have refused. Personally, I think this is a shame! Since the owners are not doing much to keeps the site running, except of counting the advertisement revenue.

Maybe the owners forgot but Rage3D is a registered trademark of ATI/AMD and they can easily pull up their domain by contacting the registrar. I honestly think that Mark has worked really hard on the site and he deserves to run it. If not him then there is one or two sites that deserve to have this honor (we would LOVE to have this honor) it is really sad to hear about Rage3D. We truly wish the best to Mark and his colleagues!!

I would like to second support for Mark(Ratchet) and his colleagues as well. I first was in contact with Mark in the summer of 2003 after Steve(**GIBRO**) and I represented Driverheaven and Rage3D at ATI WorldHQ in Markham, Ontario.

Mark seemed solid and was always helpful and friendly I actually thought he owned the board at first ... he should I think

Who will suffer here are the members of Rage and there readers and supporters. Mark is as solid as they come and all the best to him on his future ... I feel the future of Rage3D is bleek from my perspective ... just being honest !!

Member of Rage3D since August 2003

PPS: Mark do what ya gotta do BRO

I`ve seen a lot of good sites go down over the years, Rage3d has been dying slowly for some time now and the latest event is just another nail in the coffin. There is a norwegian saying that goes "either you grow or you go", nor Rage3d or its staff can grow without support from it`s owners and i can understand that Mark and the others in the Rage3d staff sees no other option then leaving even tho the site surely will deteriorate even faster now that they have left.

Edit: I wish Mark and the rest good luck.

I joined Rage3D so long ago I can't even remember my initial screenname. I joined sometime in the middle 1990's not long after getting my very first AIW 8MB PCI card and needed some help configuring it. I found a lot of help back in those days.

However, as things developed one way and then another, I got distracted from Rage3D and ventured onto other forums and rarely made my way back. I remember using some of the tools from there (Rage3D Tweak, anyone?) and always found the devs helpful with troubleshooting when needed.

Even with my own limited activity there, it would be a shame for the site to go completely belly-up after all these years. Under new leadership I'm sure it could regain the status it once had and reach out to users of all platforms, makes and models.

Here's hoping for the best and for a good outcome to all of this.

It's not easy to keep a site alive, specially for site which runs by a lot enthusiats. I have to say they used to got a lot of activies but it's been MIA for awhile now. It's a shame, it'a always nice to see other people's take on products.
