AMD to launch more 65nm processors this month
Posted by Regeneration on January 4th, 2007, 10:48 AM

AMD has launched a new set of 65nm products on 5 Dec 06, and soon, a second wave of 65nm transition will arrive in this semester. AMD is soon ready to ship another series of single-core Athlon 64 in 65nm manufacturing process, according to our source. The new models help in lowering the cost as well as the power consumption to 45W TDP.

I'll quote the most interesting part:
Quote:
It is expected that the crossover from 90nm to 65nm will occur in Q4 07. In addition, IBM and AMD have just recently presented papers describing the use of immersion lithography, ultra-low-K interconnect dielectrics, and multiple enhanced transistor strain techniques for application to the 45nm microprocessor process generation. AMD and IBM expect the first 45nm products using immersion lithography and ultra-low-K interconnect dielectrics to be available in mid-2008. This joint cooperation will be last until 2011 covering 32nm and 22nm process technology generations. We can expect the technology gap between Intel and AMD will be lessened.

I don't think they will be on my shopping list. I say Intel rulz (especially my new chipset 965 mobo) and i hope that one day all the AMD CPU's of the world explode in harmony.

AMD needs to play catch up in a hurry if they want to remain competitive.

AMD should be careful when working with IBM.
I really hope AMD will make Intel sweat a bit.
