PowerColor to release two passive X1950s @ Bit-Tech
Posted by Regeneration on December 19th, 2006, 03:30 PM

In conjunction with Arctic Cooling, PowerColor is preparing to launch a couple of passively cooled Radeon X1950's in the first quarter of next year and we've managed to get hold of a few tidbits about the new card. The cards will use a massive passive cooler with four heatpipes that is designed by Arctic Cooling. Word has it that it's capable of outperforming ATI's reference cooling solution by a few degrees.

How on earth can you beat the stock with something passive?

X1950’s fan is not that noisy but some people have serious problems with ‘noise’. Personally, I don’t care as long it doesn’t sounds like a truck (Like Thermal Take Volcano 12 CPU Cooler for AMD K7).

Physics involving materials and the thermal conductivity of the design and materials used. You can have the worlds largest and most efficient fan on the earth if your heat transfer GPU to heatsink via thermal compound / etc AND through the the passive heatsink to your "super fan". Any breakdown on any of those your heatsink sucks

Intelligent design on the passive components makes the active components more efficient. If that makes sense

Anyhew slick looking passive sink

Still coming out with 1950 cards? Pffft.

By the way I heard R600 is delayed till March.

P.S. Regeneration you need to get yourself a G80 card.

I will never buy a product from a company that trying to screw me and my friends. For some people - respect is more important then many other things. On the other hand – my X1950 is serving me very well with every game/application at this moment.

Rege..! I'm with u. had never lived with nvidia this far.
But i'm curious about that powercolor new release.
Far that I know physically there are 4 ways of human body heat release,
- radiation,
- conduction,
- convection, and
- evaporation
think it goes the same with Video card thermal management. In my view that if we are able to combine some of above then we have the most efficient cooling.
So I am really looking forward to having powercolor down to earth explanation
waiting..
