AMD has selected United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) to produce its next-generation ATI RS690 chipsets at the 80nm node, according to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN). Before its acquisition by AMD, ATI worked with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as its chief partner for 80nm production, the paper said, adding that the selection of UMC for the next-generation RS690 chipsets raises speculations about possible changes in AMD's outsourcing policy.
