Pirates Spoof Vista's Enterprise Activation
Posted by Regeneration on December 9th, 2006, 12:49 PM

Pirates are circulating a hack that lets them activate counterfeit copies of Windows Vista using a spoofed server that Microsoft relies on to make sure enterprises switch on the new operating system. The software is available on several pirate Web sites. It spoofs a Key Management Service server, one of the two technologies that Microsoft debuted last month that let businesses activate a large number of copies of Windows Vista. KMS requires that at least 25 PCs be connected to a corporation's network.

This is another example for all these companies that wasting their time on ‘protections’ and dumb things like DRM. You’re wasting your time and money because it just a matter of time before someone will crack it. Instead of developing protections, you should start working to understand why people are downloading pirates copy. But with Microsoft everyone should know problem. Yes, the super-insane price tags ($300-450 US, $350-800 in EU and only god knows about other areas in the world). Maybe the EU Union should allow Microsoft’s software piracy due of their ridiculous prices in their area.

I wouldn't install vista if microsoft gave it to me free of charge.

Not surprised at all and some good points in your reply Rege

We live in a world where one can find activation for any software using Google in a matter of seconds. Perhaps the software manufacturers should spend less time and money on protection and lower there prices .. That way one wouldn't seek other means if ya know what I mean

I have played around with Vistas betas and I am impressed with it. I dont know why there are so many haters for this to be released. I would definately fork over the money once I build my new PC for this OS.

Reasons i HATE vista.

1. No Hardware Directsound support - this means that older games which use EAX or Aureal 3D will no longer work properly,.. Creative have released a fix which converts EAX to OpenAL but it only works on the XiFi range.

2. Desktop Composition, is nothing new,.. not only that, but Desktop composition drops Frame rates by 10-15% when its active (and the changes to DX mean that DC is enabled when you play games.. unless you force it disabled via the games shortcut.

3. DirectX 7 and 8 games are layered over Dx9, this means that you will see up to about a 30% performance hit for Dx7 and 8 games, faster cpu's will drop this overhead. this effects all currently released games, as there are no 'PURE' directx9 games.

4. Vista 64 users will be quite pissed by the fact that they have to hold F8 at bootup and disable driver signing so they can install drivers for 3rd party devices.

5. WGA built into Windows Vista, is a security risk as it sends information such as Hardware serial numbers, and can also be used to find information on the programs you have installed.

6. its Bloatware.

7. i like watching all the idiots whining that theres no driver support.

heh heh

the only thing that keeps me from installing vista is that hardware manufacturers are very lasy and they release very late good drivers for vista.

Why dont you go whine some more about Vista and go use your Mac. I am getting tired of people talking trash about this operating system. It could be a hell of alot worse. And FINALLY we will be moving in the right direction in leaving old computers behind in the dust.
