| | | AMD Board Approves Acquisition of ATI? @ DailyTech | According to a report on the Globe and Mail, the board of directors at AMD has allegedly approved the take over of Canadian graphics firm ATI Technologies. The reports said that the information was released by an investment banker that was part of the discussions. According to other sources, AMD executives were also seen at ATI's headquarters in Thornhill, Ontario. The report indicated that AMD is considering a $5.6 billion takeover bid for ATI. I don't like nVidia shift to Intel; the things should remain as they are | | | | I don't like this at all | | | | I don't see it as such a bad thing. I'm sure ATI has worked alongside AMD in development, now with them all being under one roof (so to speak), maybe we'll see some real improvements, better drivers, etc. It's going to put the pressure on Nvidia, but they're up to it... | | | | Quote: |

Or meet Terry Makedon, Chris Hook and others I did there. I posted an article Zardon has archived on DH from June 2003 when I went there. There I didn't see one unhappy face or unhappy employee. No offices there open environment everyone had cubicles open to the rest of the staff ...
Its this attitude that has made ATI what it is and Terry has been there since the beginning ... I would hate to see them lose that family atmosphere I was treated like family there .... | | | | No I haven't, though I would love too. Mergers aren't always evil things though. In today's business world, it's all about the dollar, and I'm sure ATI is making that dollar. So, why would AMD come in and mess up a good thing? My hope is that they will come in, make the merger as painless as possible, and start pumping out cpu's and video cards that actually match each other, not the tug of war we seem to be going through now with the cpu's bottlenecking the video cards etc. AMD's have always been the gamer's processor. We could contest the fact that there is "safe" overclocking. I have always felt that any time you overclock, your shortening the life of your hardware, however little it may be. For the first time this week, I tried overclocking my Abit mb using the software that came with it, and tonight, my system locked up while playing Oblivion. I'm rambling on here lol, sorry. Ultimately, I just think if a company is going to buy ATI, I'm glad it's going to be AMD, and not some group of investors.... | | | | NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
AS IF GETTING DUMPED BY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN MY WORLD WASN'T ENOUGH!!!!!!!!! NOW THIS!!!!!!!

i am going to send you one | | | | This could be very good for both companies. It will probably mean new blood from ATI will finds its way to AMD design teams...Something AMD needs...badly. It also could mean better chipsets for AMD. And ATi could have access to AMD's brand new fabs... | | | | Quote: |

I visited one of the two ATI buildings in Markham of course the one I visited was where the admistration are located. Everyone right from reception were kind and courtious even the security guards. An open and creative atmosphere and I hope they don't lose that on this merger.
I see on a lot of boards people bitching and whining about Catalyst drivers and lack of support from ATI. For those maybe they should see how hard working and dedicated the people at ATI are through my eyes because I have | | | | So very true. Happy people make productive people. There was a study a few years back that proved that workers allowed to take a brief (15 minutes or so) nap were more productive. I feel the Catalyst drivers have come a long way in the past year or so, so much so that I actually use their drivers over the modded ones and am very happy with the performance. Get the two companies working together, and I would have to say watch out Nvidia and Intel!!! | | | | LOL good point | | | | I don’t like this idea, because I’m afraid that AMD will ruin ATi. Maybe they will fire some of the current employees or do something bad. New boss, new rules! (Let’s hope it will not be an n00b one). | | |
