Nvflash 5.18 for Windows 2000/XP/2003/x64
Posted by Regeneration on June 22nd, 2006, 03:34 AM

How many times have you had to create an MS-DOS floppy, or a bootable CD, just to flash your VGA card BIOS? Too many times I bet. We have managed to put our hands on a Windows version of Nvflash (Nvidia’s BIOS flashing utility). This utility can help make our lives a lot easier when BIOS flashing.

Use this at your own risk!

When AsusUpdate came out everyone was freaking out warning not to use it because it could hose your system. I have yet to have a bad experience flashing in Windows, been doing it ever since it came out.

Nice to have another Windows flasher, contrary to popular belief these programs are just as safe as the pre-boot flashers.

Sounds very handy

I've used it a few times on my 7800GT with no issues. It's an excellen tool!

Hi there,

does it work with my Geforce 4200 Ti too? And where can i get a new Bios for this one?

Sorry for my bad english.

It works with GF4.

Tried running this under x64 to save the BIOS on my current card, or even just to check the BIOS version, and regardless of the command I run it says

ERROR: Unable to create service

or

ERROR: Unable to start service

Any thoughts? All files are extracted to the same folder on the desktop. Tested with and without AV enabled.

Try to put it in the root directory (some apps don't like long filenames).

Good point, and I should have thought of that myself (duh!). However, moving it to C:\nvflash did not fix the problem. For example, when I try

nvflash --save bios.bin

Or any variety of filenames, it errors out. If I try the short version (-b bios.bin), it still does the same thing. Was this verified under x64? I see it uses a system file, I assume as a driver. Could it be incompatible with x64?

Jito463 stepping in here and trust me I am no expert on this. X64 is stiil a fairly new platform and perhaps isn't fully supported on this as you mentioned.

A second thought ...

Make sure its compatable with the your card and the EEPROM the BIOS is stored on:

Well, I thought I already saw that it was supported, but now I can't recall where. I'll double-check my card against that list and verify. Thanks.
