Facebook's application for Android could drain your device's battery faster by up to 20 percent. The app by Facebook, the most popular social networking service, runs in the background constantly and consumes a lot of CPU time and RAM - even if you're not using it, or have it in a logged out state. This report based on an in-house benchmark using Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM), Android 4.2.2 and Facebook 3.4. A good alternative to Facebook's app is to create a bookmark linking to Facebook's mobile website on your homescreen.

Just simply disable background notifications of facebook. And if you rooted your Android phone (don't know why one wouldn't) disable it from automatically starting up upon certain events(install autostarts). That way it's only running when you want to view it. Recommending to use the mobile website is like recommending you smash your head with a hammer, it's horrendous.

To further extend your battery life, disable other apps from automatically running in the background too during different events.

Ya must say, this is terrible advice, there are far better ways of dealing with it. Notifications is the primary one and the only real option for non-rooted. For the rooted guys there is an even better alternative to Thunder350's, and that is greenify, been using it for a month or so and its wonderful. It puts any app you select into full hibernate when in background mode, its the same effect as you froze the app with titanium, without the hassle of needing to defrost again.

As a side note, chrome is almost as bad as facebook, greenified him too. Got my batter down from a day average of 7-10%/hr to 2-4%/hr and the "while I am asleep and bloody everything is off" is now down to 0.7%.

Honestly, if you going to go through all the trouble to test something, write half an article and email me to tell me about it, I would of expected it to be much more of an article, some facts behind it and a full list of solutions, not just "uninstall and stick a shortcut on your screen and use the so inferior is not even comical alternative." You could of even mentioned Friendcaster as a far more battery efficient, superior and more feature rich alternative for both rooted and non-rooted users.

I cannot image how it took you more than 30seconds to suck this imitation article out of your thumbs.

Oh I forgot about Greenify, I love that app. It completely slipped my mind.

It's basically a platform by means of which the world government(s) have gained access to privacy of millions of people.
