| | Video Game Sales Down 34% In January | | The US retail game industry has taken its first step into 2012, and it appears to have resulted in a broken ankle. Today, the NPD Group reported dismal January retail sales, with total consumer spend in the US falling 34 percent to $750.6 million.
"One factor for the double digit declines in new physical software was the lack of new launches. New launches in January 2011 represented 13 percent of dollar sales and new launch performance dropped 99 percent in Jan 2012. Games like Dead Space 2, Little Big Planet 2, and DC Universe Online ranked within the top ten last year," commented NPD analyst Anita Frazier. Sad fact is most such games are practically ruined once you do purchase some of their packages. Plus they tend to introduce more and more of the same old crap just so they would draw a quick buck out of the fool's pocket. The real issue is not why do said fools hand out their cash, but how to get them to give you their money, on a regular basis practically for nothing. | | | | Well I play W.o.T from time to time, and you can easy live without the premium account. It only gives fee premium tanks, double xp and money and allow to create 3 tanks companies , instead of free account (2 tanks).
DEVs even removed some of the premiums cos they were too powerful. So its not always bad with the free-to-play. | | | | I played WoT for quite a while and I diagree, you cannot progress past tier 8 without premium, the tanks are just way to expensive to repair and ammo costs way too much. If you dont want the game to turn into a misserable grind then you need premium otherwise you will be in the same tank for countless hourts trying to scrape enough xp together to upgrade and unlock the next tank, not to mention the cash, unless you buy a wallet tank like the Low($40) you will never earn enough cash to prograss past tier 7 or 8. Not to mention the spending redundancies with experience, if you earn XP on an elite tank or a pay tank and you want to use it to upgrade a regular tank you have to pay to move the XP, even if youve payed for a premium account.
The only free 2 play game, which has only been free for a while, which works is team fortress 2, none of the pay items really affect balance, the different weapons are mostle just play preference tweaks and dont give you any real advantage since they carry heft disadvantages, the only stuff people mostly pay for is clothing to make their character look unique which doesnt affect the game at all. | | | | As I typed I play W.o.T from "time to time" and have a blast with it , I rather play to have fun not to get top tier , and maybe that we have different opinions on it.
Im currently on tier IV, and the fun from this tier and playing X is mostly the same. I actually maxed my crew and learning camouflage currently 50%.
You probable right with the top tiers. But that don't change the thing that You can have a lot fun for free with this game. | | | | Trust me once you hit tier 5 it turns into a terrible grind, you will be put into battles with tanks you cant even damage, you will not stand a chance unless you get luck and get put into a match with weaker tanks or till youve got a top tier tank. | | | | Quote: |

| Partly it's like that in spiral knights, as well. That game hasn't been destroyed completely yet, even though it's taxing on the new players. | | | | Havent tried spiral knights, keep meaning too, does it still have a large player base? | | | | Well, it has its ups and downs. Based on the market prices for various items, less players play the game. Used to make loads on recipes, now that market has toned down quite a lot. Probably those gate passes had something to do with it, as well.
It's still coded like shit in java though, but it did have nice updates in some important areas, mostly the lag department; now when the monster misses you, you are really missed (as opposed to a few months back). The problem is they like to change some stats at random, so recently they upped some status effects, just for kicks.
And yes, there are still shitloads of beggars and fail scammers. Just the other day some guy offered me to borrow 1k CE with about 500% interest. | | | | Hmm, maybe Ill give it a go next time Im bored and lookign for something different. | | | | Fuck most of the garbage games out these days. Pirate most games for about 6 years now, thnx to the consoles ports and crap. | | | | ^^ if games are shit, why even bother downloading them? | | | | I do play some in my free time, but when finished with them I uninstall the turds.
Only buy some multiplayer games. | | | | So you value more your money then your time? Money can be made, stolen, traded, printed... time cannot. | | | | hey what can I say, I'm a gamer! I am an all around gamer of many types so I want to atleast try as many of them and my friends do as well. The ones we really like we buy and play online.
Maybe you are strapped for time but not me, friends or anyone I know of. Maybe you have a busy life m8 |

I just tryed Spiral knights and the energy you get at start , lasted like half hour after that you unable do use elevators. So Your unable to play.
Or im doing something wrong or its worst example of free to play. | | | | The energy replenishes, about 100 pts per 22 hrs. You can also buy energy with ingame credits (crowns). New players usually waste loads of energy on reviving so it lasts only for a short while.
I can play about 2-3 hours on 100 "mist energy", while playing I make about 20k crowns which can buy me about 300 "crystal energy". The problem is, for new players, to hit the high profit tiers, but it still can be done.
There are, as always, some ways around some of the limitations, but usually skilled player will manage to do more with less.
Just some pointers:
- the deeper you go, more crowns you can make
- you have a shield, use it
- do not buy crappy items, those really set you back. Any gear below 2* is crap and should be avoided
- usually, you'll want to avoid doing "full" runs, that is, start from the beginning. There is the "join party" button, use it to get to deeper levels
- arenas and graveyards give you substantially more crowns then other levels
- levels at certain depth cycle so you can wait for better levels at the elevators. This is usually very important and it takes about 5-7 minutes for levels to switch.
- everything the party collects is shared, so there is no point in grubbing. Only the materials are divided randomly between the party members
- there are more points, we can get into it if you're interested
Breakdown:
- on 100 mist energy per day, you should be able to net at least 5k cr per day. If you have friends, aim for better levels (arenas and graveyards) at tier 1 (which is easy to do on crap gear you get in the beginning) you should be able to make at least 7k cr/day, maybe even up to 10k
- currently, with energy prices as they are, it's most cost effective to buy 3 star gear directly from other players or the auction house. Most items revolve at around 15k crowns, meaning you should be able to get one 3* item every 2-3 days
- once you have all 3* gear, you're ready to delve a bit deeper and thusly make more crowns. To get to 4* gear, you'll have to craft (well, you don't have to, but it's a lot cheaper to do so). For that you're going to need 400 crystal energy, a recipe and materials. All in all, you'll need about 28k cr per item
- all in all, in about one month of efficient playing you can probably max out your gear (that one line you chosen) and "complete" the game by beating all the bosses and whatnot.
BTW, ingame I'm mkeyy, just don't ask me to do tier 1 | | | | Thx i will give it a try with Your pointers | | |
