Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Final

Posted by Regeneration on March 21st, 2011, 11:20 PM

Faster, more secure, easier to use and sporting a new look, this latest Firefox release sets a new standard for web browser innovation. Mozilla Firefox project (formerly Firebird, which was formerly Phoenix) is a redesign of Mozilla's browser component, written using the XUL user interface language and designed to be cross-platform. It is small, fast and easy to use, and offers many advantages over other web browsers, such as the tabbed browsing and the ability to block pop-up windows.

With a fresh new look and features like App Tabs and Panorama, Firefox makes it easier and more efficient to navigate the Web. Firefox Sync is integrated into Firefox, giving you access to your history, bookmarks, open tabs and passwords across computers and mobile devices. Firefox respects your privacy and safeguards your security with new features, like Do Not Track and Content Security Policy.

Firefox also includes performance enhancements to make everything faster, from start-up time to page-load speed, and the performance of Web applications and games. Depending on the benchmark you choose, Firefox is anywhere between two and six times faster.

New HTML5 capabilities in Firefox enable developers to create fun Web apps and websites. Firefox HTML5 support includes hardware accelerated, high-definition video (WebM), 3D graphics, offline data storage, professional typography, touchscreen interfaces, the Mozilla Audio API to help create visual experiences for sound and more.

this is the RC, not the final release build

It is final. Don't be a n00b. You're getting the RC page because Mozilla didn't update http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0/whatsnew/ yet.

That will probably disable any GPU acceleration you might have in FF4. I don't have such problems with Chrome and Chromium, lol.

I dunno what the hell is going on but that fixed the text display issue
didn't had these issues with FF3.6.x

You can put the HOME button anywhere you want to. Have you tried using the Customize option?

Do this:

Right click on any blank space between the buttons on the navigation bar....that's the one that includes the HOME button.

You'll get a Customize box that pops up on the screen. Move things around to your heart's content.

FTR, I didn't like it over there on the right, either. It's back between the BACK button and the URL box where it belongs.

text is screwed indeed :/
can someone post in-depth guide for n00bs?
or maybe its time to move completely to chrome?

like promius said:
in the adress bar type about:config, a new tab will open
there will a field called Filter , type gfx so the options shown will start with gfx.*
find gfx.direct2d.disabled and set it to true

restart firefox and post the results

If you are using an ATI [AMD] video card and have MLAA enabled in CCC for your 3D games, you should Disable that. Text should clear up.

Actually it has nothing to do with MLAA since the same effect is on XP (and I fear it might extend also to nv and intel users). The effect is well known since RC1 or even before... I don't know why they didn't fix that. It's not 100% of every system, but there's plenty of complains around the world.

I don't think that I have MLAA option,im with HD4890...and MLAA is for 5xxx+

Made 2 screens, when you zoom in - you can see the differences.
Thank you very much.

I'm sorry but with every new version, Mozilla screws FF even more
I want FF to look and function as it did in 2.x series; was extremely disappointed when they merged browse history with bookmarks in FF 3.x
and now even more issues with FF 4
Quote
My only problem with FF4 is the stupid chrome rip-off interface, other then that it runs quite smoothly and performs well, feels better then ff 3 did

Not sure what you mean about merging bookmarks and history in ff3, they are two separate menus. not really sure where the history menu is in ff4 but I almost never use it so havent searched it out
Quote
Yea for me it too fell smoother and faster .

And my only problem is the fucking HOME button on the right edge and same with relod button.

Not needed change.

I use speed dial and mouse gestures so never use any buttons really but I could see how that might be annoying

the drop down menu attached to address bar used to show only history (FF 2.x)
in FF 3.x they said it's better to merge the two things but they limited the amount of links showed

when they did that, I lost quick access to almost 100 links
not funny

now with FF4, I have webpages that freeze FF and I have to end-task it; even if I run FF in safe-mode
I'm seriously considering transferring all my stuff to another browser(s), if I find a way to do a 100% transfer

culd you post links to these pages ??

Thats really odd, only time I encountered problems like that they were related to the plugin container and turning it off solved it

I told you how to change the location of the HOME button a few posts up. I've already moved mine over to the left where it belongs. Also, the RELOAD button.
