Sony Tells People Not To Play PS3

Posted by Regeneration on March 1st, 2010, 08:38 PM

Japanese electronics giant Sony has advised owners of older versions of the PlayStation 3 not to use the videogame console until it can fix a problem with the clock in the system. "As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today," Patrick Seybold, a Sony spokesman, said in a post on the Sony PlayStation blog at blog.us.playstation.com.

Seybold said the problem, which has left many PS3 owners unable to connect to the Internet and some unable to even play games offline, was only affecting models released before last year's "slim" PS3. "We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours," Seybold said.

"In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data."

why wait? go buy one now

I have an 80Gb "FAT" PS3 that pre-dates the SLIM by 1/2 a year and it's not affected my the internal clock issue

the date on the internal clock is out of sync with the software one and that causes issues, the problem might just go away after today

The Xbox always rest its clock to 2005 everytime you plug it off the socket.

PS3 has internal BIOS like software aside the OS, something like EFI
has internal clock, OS clock and PSN clock

This has been happening for a couple days now.

Actually its kinda nice, psn is nice and lag free right now

If I were you, I would change the store where I get my PC equipment.

Sony knew it and did it the right way, you don't try and fix things on a spree that might cause a butterfly effect

seems like it was something in one of the FW updates that may have triggered the bug in the internal clock, someone who fixes PS3 units has some 40Gb and 60Gb units without FW updates and those weren't affected

It is odd I know I guess Pc don't like me. The Ram was from corsair had 3 of there ram cards go bad on me. After the 3th one had gone bad I tried Ozc and never had a problem with them so far. I've had 2 maxtor's and 4 WD raptor drivers go bad on me. I also have had 2 asus Boards Die on me lol.

Would not be surprised if it was there drm, but hey, I guess they want to ruin pc gaming with their drm (secu-rom) which is just bullshit. Microsoft, their competitor, owns pc gaming basically.

Hopefully I have luck with ocz ram, well I should, especeially if you are, I bought it because it had good reviews on websites, I had no clue about their reputation. Don't buy from the same store as someone else said, maybe they sell knock off's of the hardware, hey you never know, this one place that I was about to buy hardware from, and everything looked about the same, I checked the looks, bus speed, amount, if it was ddr3, triple channel, and same name brand, and the serial #, when I checked the serial # of the identical ram, it was slightly different.

Im running OCZ DDR3 right now and its running quite nicely, no complaints and no problems

I buy most of my Pc parts from newegg. Be for that it was zipzoomfly. I kind of think Ups damages it sometimes. Ive had boxes come from then that look like they came from a war zone. Ive even seen a the outline where someone foot had been on the box I guess some people don't know what fragile means. This must be what happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxPa9...eature=related

Ive had the exact same thing happen from newegg, every time I order from them the box looks like its had the crap kicked out of it, once the delivery guy dropped the box so hard on my front step that I heard it hit the step from the back of the house
Quote
i'd send him back to the warehouse with a bloody nose.
Quote
Wow, I must be one of the only people who gets his stuff delivered without a scratch on a box, even from new egg, and tiger direct. Must be the local delivery guys who don't know what fragile means for others.

He's just lucky I didnt make it to the door before he took off

Ive never had an isuse with tigerdirect, their stuff always arrives fast and intact, but newegg and the so called "UPS" they use, which im doubtful is actually ups, or ups subcontracts it to some 3rd rate company, is terrible. The box always looks like its been crushed and kicked around and the delivery guy takes pleasure in throwing your stuff around
