C&C 3 was the last decent game. But they started with Megazords and lameness since Kane's Wrath expansion pack for C&C 3.

Hmmm,

told through persistent player progression

Persistent Player Progression – The more enemy units you destroy, the more experience points you earn to progress your player profile! Level up to unlock new units, powers, and upgrades to make your army more powerful!

Has every game got to be like an MMORPG now...

So doesn't that mean you have to "collect them all" to play online competitively, or even to do Skirmishes across a LAN with all the units etc.

C&C meets Pokemon....

Liked the original Westwood games from Dune to RA2, the graphics on C&C4 look good to me but I just feel you lose a bit of the strategy feel of the game to too much realtime live action pew pew lazers.

Will probably give it a try when it comes out merely due to the cooperative storyline mode if that is worth anything, but I am not holding my breath on that.

"Choose to take on the campaign solo or team up with a friend and play cooperatively!"

But don't worry! this time they hired Ronald McDonald to improve their textures.
I wonder why they think we do love Pokemon.

Pokemons are lame, kids are lame (i.e. they don't use their heads) hence the connection on the most basic level.
