| Posted by Chaos on December 13th, 2009, 12:07 AM | thats pretty quick for sure | |
| Posted by Regeneration on December 13th, 2009, 12:14 AM | I used Intel X25-M SSD and Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit to achieve these results. And it is 10 seconds. | |

| Posted by 3rdalbum on December 13th, 2009, 02:45 AM | Congratulations, you've convinced me to buy an SSD for my desktop. I can't afford the Intel one but I'll have a look around for a different fast one.
That whole system came up in the same amount of time that it takes me to unsuspend!
| Posted by Sazabizc on December 13th, 2009, 03:07 AM | Thats petty fast lol. Do you like your SSD Reg?Im thinking about getting one. | |
| Posted by blindartist on December 13th, 2009, 05:20 AM | I had my copy of vista 64 booting ina bout 15 seconds or less when it was a fresh instal so this is really nothing to brag about | |

| Posted by Unregistered on December 14th, 2009, 01:17 AM | I dont know how fast my WinXP boots cause i 'hit the powerbutton', went to the kitchen to grab a coffee and when i come back its ready for use (= | |
| Posted by AfterLife on December 14th, 2009, 11:00 AM | Windows 7 boot fast when the install is new after sometime the boot up time deteriorates when you start installing programs. Even though I just have sound, network in my task bar it takes me 23 secs to get to my desktop. The welcome screen takes hell lot of a time to initialize this is where the task bar programs and background services are loaded I think. | |
| Posted by Unregistered on December 14th, 2009, 02:25 PM | Funny stuff that the stopwatch doesn't record the time it takes the BIOS to post... While it is true that Ubuntu "loads" in 10 seconds, I think it is misleading to say that it boots in 10 seconds. Booting should take into the account the computer actually booting - not just loading the OS.
Either way it's fast. | |
| Posted by Mr.Mizer XD on December 14th, 2009, 05:39 PM | Rather fast 13.5 seconds. | |
| Posted by mkey on December 14th, 2009, 09:20 PM | The actual post prices takes various amounts of time from one system to the other, so it's better to be left out from the measurement. But some terminology rethinking would be welcome. | |
| Posted by lyla on December 15th, 2009, 08:40 AM | Dont know how some of you guys get 13 secs unless your counting the time it takes for the user to select the O.S. in which case you would get very random results from person to person.
Im just sipping ma coffee......2mins to boot.
So it is 10secs you anal sods. |

my system is up and running after ~20 to 25 seconds, using a normal (pretty cheap) harddrive.
so how can your system boot up slower using SSD?
| Posted by mkey on December 15th, 2009, 01:55 PM | All this obviously depends on the state of the OS. | |
| Posted by lumo on December 15th, 2009, 02:04 PM | state of the os?
i do not hibernate the computer.
i turn it completely off.
then power on, wait for bios to go through. then start counting the boot time.
windows loaded means to me i can work, not the first sight of taskbar (although this is the same since vista - i do not have hundreds of background programs running - i start programs when i need em!)
| Posted by mkey on December 15th, 2009, 02:08 PM | State as in presence of background applications (many programs have additional services user is not even made aware of) and the general state of the OS as windows have the tendency to slow down with time (I'm assuming besides clutter, a number of data corruptions occurs that makes windows respond more slowly).
Hence, a fresh OS will always be faster, especially on boot up and shut down.
| Posted by Jaka on December 17th, 2009, 09:58 AM | MAC Os X boots and starts the desktop as fast as this.. :P | |
| Posted by Firzen on December 20th, 2009, 02:13 PM | Guyz if u use new asus motherboard and win7.. u get prety nice resoults! When I press power button it takes 9s to fully load desktop =) i could say that this new ubuntu is nothing special | |
| Posted by lumo on December 21st, 2009, 06:23 AM | define "new asus motherboard" mine is new, and it takes longer than 9s to come past bios | |
