| | | Infinity Ward Screws Modern Warfare 2 PC | Infinity Ward needs to realize that talking to people in the PC community does not end well for the buzz around its game. The lack of dedicated servers was "announced" during an interview with a gaming podcast, and the interviewers were stunned into silence when they were basically told their community, as they knew it, was dead. They would have to learn to adapt to Infinity Ward controlling all aspects of the servers, or move onto another game.
More recently, Best Buy hosted an online chat between gamers and Mackey McCandlish and Ryan Lastimosa from Infinity Ward. The floor was open for questions, and the pair systematically crushed any hope that the PC version of the game would even attempt to make gamers happy, or allow for what the community has been taking for granted for years. We're going to take a look at some of the more telling questions from this session, and give our thoughts on why this is bad, bad news.
No matter how good a connection the host has, no matter how powerful your dedicated server was, the maximum number of players online is 18. If you have a larger clan, you're out of luck. If you're waiting for someone to create a custom map to allow larger groups, don't bother. There is no news on mod tools or the ability to add your own content into the locked-down server structure.

| | | | 46 Comments | | | | | | | What a bunch of fucktards. I guess I will not be buying that game. | | | | yet another reason (of many) why everyone needs to say screw this game, and infinity ward in general, they dont want to play ball then they dont need our money. | | | | | | To be honest, from my experience MW2 deserves GoTY [despite the fact its too short]. It is really a shame they treat PC gamers (aka the majority) like that. | | | | see I disagree, I find there is little that sets it apart from all the other games in its tired genre, theres definetly much better candidates for game of the year | | | | Quote:

- no ability to kick/ban players who disturb the match; uses VAC instead of PunkBuster to over-watch the cheaters
- no dedicated servers
- no lean
- average 100ms ping for players
- no console commands
- no server list/browser
- the game is a direct port form the XBox360, customized to support mouse, keyboard and graphic options
- single player campaign that can be finished in 4 hours
- pricetag of 60$ and 60EU
- mandatory use of STEAM; the game must be liked to a STEAM account - no possibility of returning the game
- no ability for clans greater than 18 players to play in the same match
- no possibility for clan vs clan matches
- even if they release at a later date dedicated server tools, the maps cannot house more than 18 players - they will become crowded

Reason: added some more details
| Quote | | | | | No lean? What the fuck? Why did the remove that? | | | | as the game is a direct port form consoles and the console version doesn't have lean ...
they explained that the game: |

| Quote | | | | | Oh this is really bullshit, man. So what now have one more cheap console sellout. I mean, I know two prior games were also console ports, but they were OK as PC games.
lol Not balanced for lean? Nah, it's not balanced for my budget. | | | | no, the previous CoD games from IW were not ports; they were developed for PC from scratch in fact IW was renowned for that | | | | I don't agree on that one entirely, but I do consider those titles to be proper PC games. |

IWNet might not have localized services for EU and other territories, but atm it's just guessing | | | | Quote:

and you lean to side... | | | | This all sounds like a trend away from PC game development. Are PC games really in trouble? I hope not.
I just bought Operation Flashpoint for PC. It's amazing! The walking thing is a bit long, but the gameplay and overall experience is really good. I was planning on getting the new COD, but I think I'll just stick to Flashpoint for now. Sounds like COD is a huge disappointment. | | | | Well I was going to buy this when it comes down to about 20 US $$ but not sure now. Is the Campaign any good? I don't play Online game really any more. Even if the Campaign is good Im not going to pay 50 Us $$ for a lame console port. | | | | the main campaign can be completed in about 4 hours, its a waste of money, dont bother | | | | Quote:

Also, leaning on | | | | anyone that pays 60 bucks for a 4 hour game with no real multiplayer is an idiot or just likes it in the pooper
I dont pay 60 bucks for less thne 15 hours of gameplay, and even thats pushing it | | | | Well, I usually finished CODs 4-5 time so let's say you get there :/ | | | | see i only play a game once, once you beat it you know exactly what going to happen so theres no point in playing it again, ive never seen a game with actual 'replay value', its like watching a movie, once youve seen it youve seen it | | | | I always play through good games a few times. Some games I replayed a dozen times. | | | | I cant do that, once I know what happens it looses all apeal to me, im hoping Dragon Age will have some actual replay value as supposedly the story can change a bit depending on your choices but other games have made that claim in the past | | | | awwww cute pic mkey i love cats | | | | Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,Left 4 Dead series are also screwed with no dedicated servers,I think I saw it somewhere posted over the internet ... But still,I bought the second one after having fun with 3 friends over the internet in expert campaign...
But playing MW with max 18 players - its sucks... | | | | Quote:

You got some special rates over there. | | | | Same price, same amount of players, no lean, no consoles commends, no custom maps, no mod tools, no demo, no control of bad language, no competiive modes, and no manually select server to join.
Those things on the top are all on the console version (ps3) that I tried. Hopefully I did not miss anything, thats all from the top of my head. This game game is nearly the same as the console version, maybe even exactly the same. What a same!!! Infinity Ward needs to get their shit straight, I will boycott this game. This game is a complete waste of money for the amount of gameplay that it might have. I can't stand how infinity ward is even banning console players who even bought the game, nothing to do with the computer version but thought that I should add that. I agree with "mkey" in the above post and "spazzz" (three posts above). Like in other posts, I can't play the game more than once, unless it is one of my favorite games, "Uncharted", I know it is a console game, but it is prety good, controls are hard but I can get used to since I have been a console gamer for 5-6 years and computer gamer for almost 2 years. Comnputer gaming is much easier to get used to. the game seems to be good. I currently like gaming better on the pc.
****Spooler alert*****spoler alert*****spoler alert*****don't read if you dont want to find out what happens in part of the game*****
The first level and the training are prety bad, the second level is that snow level in the e3 demo, the level is only about 2 minutes longer than what the e3 demo shows, from the beginning to almost the end of the level. The third level is the level in the airport (in one of the trailers), what happens is that you follow makarov with his guys, that are shooting civilians, and later in this short level you go outside and you shoot down security, which was fun actually, since you can't just going out and shoot in the open, you have to take a good amount of cover. Then as you go in the van makarov or one of his people grab your hand to help you up and get shoot while getting in the van, then your people come trying to help you. Call of duty 5 looked better in the ps3 version than cod6, in most parts. Hopefully Cod6 looks better than cod5 in the pc versions. Kind of retarded that I compared the game that way. The game is very annoying when you get shot, there is alot of blood splatter on the screen and makes it harder to see than cod4 and 5. Hope that is enough info. | | | | | | | | | | all you PC gamers need to stop bitching and get a console, PC gaming is the was of the past, get in the now. I viewed the petition website and view the names of people who signed it... there are barely over 1000 people who signed that petition, good luck making a difference losers, the xbox community alone has over 800 000 gamers, just incase you're dumb thats 800 times more people, I think pc gamers are going under :-) | | | | Quote:

Also, mind your spelling, back to school, I guess.
All of you dumb shit lamer assholes need to realize that console gaming is not for everyone. If you want
* quality titles (i.e. not watered down crap you people call console games)
* acceptable framerates (i.e. over thirty)
* sharp looking games, with proper texture size/quality, nice models instead of crappy ones, AA and other bullshit consoles can't support (lol - yeah, xbox support 2xAA but the games are still blurred to high heaven)
* proper input methods (yeah, FPS games and gamepads, good combo, keep believing it lol)
* settings that can be SCALED to your needs and abilities
* to play older games without the need to actually own 15 consoles from 15 generations lol
* hardware that doesn't break ever 125th in the month
* hardware that can be upgraded if necessary
* hardware that can be repaired by yourself if necessary
* freedom to choose the platform as all PC games work on ALL PCs (that meet the hardware requirements)
* ton of other crap
then I guess console gaming is not for you.
If you want
* crappy games
* crappy controls
* blur-o-vision
* expensive titles
* getting shafted by your console master every time you purchase anything related to your console
then console is definitively for you retards. And you even don't know you're getting it in the all lol
With all this being said, I have absolutely nothing against consoles, those who like to use them are OK in my book. But if you think that console gaming is actually better, then I have to laugh at you, hard.
If I had to choose between console gaming and no gaming at all, guess what would I go for? |
