Windows Vista DirectX 11 Update
Posted by Regeneration on October 29th, 2009, 11:37 AM

DirectX 11 is the next generation of graphics technology, arrives with Windows 7. This is great news for players as many of the newest Windows games will take full advantage of this technology to create more immersive and detailed worlds and experiences. Game developers will utilize new features to create rich worlds, realistic characters, and more fluid gameplay.

Tessellation – Tessellation is implemented on the GPU to calculate a smoother curved surface resulting in more graphically detailed images, including more lifelike characters in the gaming worlds that you explore.
Multi-Threading – The ability to scale across multi-core CPUs will enable developers to take greater advantage of the power within multi-core CPUs. This results in faster framerates for games, while still supporting the increased visual detailing.
DirectCompute – Developers can utilize the power of discrete graphics cards to accelerate both gaming and non-gaming applications. This improves graphics, while also enabling players to accelerate everyday tasks, like video editing, on their Windows 7 PC.

Be advised that Service Pack 2 and the latest version of DirectX Redistributable are required.

Would be fun to see dx11 benchies done on both Vista and 7, to see if there is any (big or small) difference in dx11 performance??

Im too lazy to do it my self.

I've run the Unigine Heaven Demo 1.0 Benchmark now under both Windows 7 x64 and Windows Vista x86. Both were run selecting DX11 and the same sub-features where possible.

There's not much difference but Windows 7 came out on top by a few notches.

You can see the scores in the graphics forum.

Hey Dyre, have you had any issues with windows 7 64 and games? ive heard from quite a few people that their having alot of problems with crtains games but only in the 64 bit version, I think its probably related to the driver though

So far, I'm doing fine with games. Which particular games are these people having problems with?

To me it seems as if RC was better then RTM. Some games (GTAIV) are acting up.

From what ive read RC performed better then RTM as well

I don't have L4D at all. Don't even have a demo... Is there one?

I've been playing Far Cry 2 and Rainbow 6 Vegas: 2 lately. As mentioned elsewhere in Games, I recently played Syberia through again.

I have been playing Resident Evil 5 on windows 7 ......no problems what so ever its rock solid although the boot up time has gone up since I first installed it. I always keep startup items minimal but still the boot time is 2 min 47 secs for me from the moment I power on the computer till it idles at the desktop.

How many saved games do you have? If you save a lot, try moving or even deleting many of the older saves and see if that improves the time it takes to get into the game.

Afterlife, is that on windows 7 64 or 32? its only the 64bit version that apperently has these issues with games, but again I think its probably mostly drivers problems.

I foundthe same with vista's boot time, at first it was instant like 5 seconds but then it got really slow, I think it could just be because of superfetch honestly

It say that it does not apply to my vista sp2 ).

L4D works on my Win7 64bit RC1.. Will be receiving OEM Win7 64bit Pro sometime soon. Probably a driver related issue. I run a i7 920, P6T, SLI GTX260core216, latest drivers, and good driver support. Everything that runs on my Vista64 and XP64 runs on Win7 x64 in my experience. I've had issues with a cracked version of GRID, but once i bought it off STEAM, no issues what-so-ever.... lol

Left4Dead, NwN2 +3 expansions, TheWitcher, Vampire Redemption, Vampire Bloodlines, Doom3, Warlords BattleCry3, GuitarHero3, and Dungeons&Dragons Online are working FLAWLESLY on my Win7 x64 OS, except for WLBCIII that had minor graphic issues, but were resolved installing the lastest official patch.
