Risen Demo
Posted by Regeneration on October 6th, 2009, 11:39 PM

Deep Silver has released a playable demo of Risen. A sweeping story captivates players from the start! An epic story in an authentic world hand-crafted with an eye for detail and populated by "real", plausible characters. A Mysterious Volcanic Island The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorising the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. The End of All Hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon them-selves to put an end to these events.

Im still on the fence about this game, its clearly just gothic 4 with a different title, maybe ill try the demo

I only downloaded the demo for Gothic 3 last night and played around with it a bit. I'm really not too impressed so far.

Kept getting the Orc Slayer sword knocked out of my hands and had to grasp for other ways to do battle. But, it's my first experience with this series and it could actually get better with some practice/experience.

I'll hold off on an opinion for now, though.

So, how does Risen compare to Gothic3?

well gothic 3 is regarded as the worst of the gothic series by most gothi fans (which I am really not one of)

Risen seems to be getting fairly good reviews so far, people say its closer related to the first two gothic games then the 3rd

I've played around with the demo for over an hour. I'm not nearly as impressed with this as I was with Drakensang: The Dark Eye.

alot of people are giving it good reviews but I think ill skip this one, it just doeant speak to me, I didnt try drakensang mainly because everyone said it recycled alot of stuff throught the game and the voice acting was terrible which I cant stand in a game

Voice acting in Drakensang is OK for that type of game. Have seen/heard a lot worse.

Voice acting means nothing to those of us who are deaf.

lol

Game, set and match, kind sir. But believe me, it was fine. Drakensang wasn't a "AAA" title and it didn't have "AAA" voicing. The only thing negative I can say about the game is the fact a few battles are just ridiculously hard.

I may have to give it a try then, Ive been dieing for a decent real rpg and nothings really come out in ages, Diablo 3 wont be out till like 2011 because blzzard wants to milk WoW some more, Dragon Age looks like it might be good though

Been debating replaying the witcher with the enhanced edition but i hate replaying a game because I already know exactly what happens so its no fun anymore

Give Drakensang a shot. It's a good game even though it doesn't feel like a "grade A" title. It brings nothing groundbreaking to the scene, but it does have a lot more then 99% of modern games. IF anything, it's a pure PC game, without any wacky gamepad symbols plastered all over or blur or whatever. The biggest drawback being some of the battles that are just too hard I already mentioned (kinda reminded me of the worst moments in baldur's gate).

Also, it has this extra thing I like to do sometimes, since you can assemble a purely female team of characters and since they have rather limited underwear, its' fun to prance around and go on adventuring practically butt naked lol

Risen is a great game, atleast so far. Stupid not to test a demo, its free. If you dont like it, dont buy it. And if you do like it...., well you get the point. A demo is a demo, why sit and debate if you should or not test it?? And if you are immoral pirates (like me), you can download the whole game for free, and then buy it to sponsor the devs.

yea but I only get 25gigs of bandwidth a month so a 1 gig download is quite a bit, id rather be leading more towards the "im gonna like it" side before I comit to a download, but right now im still on the fence
