yeah lets just "So what ???" every news item...or benchmark or anything else.

Browser performance may not be everyones cup of tea, but anyone that is interested in it for web applications etc. I guess would be interested in this. For the rest of the world, so what.

I am glad they introduced a standard test for browser performance, it might get slow platforms like Internet Explorer, A) to realise they are not up to scratch, and B) improve themselves. More and more websites, operating systems, applications use the browser engines as cores for applications, these cores without being benchmarked would just hold back what phones/PCs etc can do. But if through this one benchmark over the next few revisions internet explorer can become 5 times faster which is were Safari is, then it was worth it considering how many platforms use the piece of shit browser engine.

a benchmark that tests browser compatibility with certain programming schemes and ability to run them is more useful than this one
even if FF is slower than chrome and safari, I still use it

people forget that chrome is still very basic, as more functionality is added IT WILL SLOW DOWN.

There are there three things I care about a browser: compatibility, functionality and performance.

• Internet Explorer is great with compatibility but lacks functionality and performance.
• Firefox is great with compatibility, functionality but the performance is only average.
• Opera lacks compatibility, functionality and performance.
• Chrome lacks compatibility, functionality but is really fast.
• Safari lacks compatibility, average on functionality but extremely fast.

What I want to see is optimizations from Mozilla to boost up Firefox’s performance. So I guess there are two good browsers for me: Firefox and Safari.

Firefox's performance issues lie in site admins and server admins SUCKING BADLY at optimising the server properly.

...im not joking about that either,

but anyway, 3.6a is faster then 3.5 by a bit, still below chrome, but its faster.

- Never heard of Safari. I assume since it is Apple it is fairly safe.
- Google has to much big brother crap goin on. No way i install any more of their spyware.
- I use Firefox for any big download. Much better DL manager than IE.
- I use IE for most browsing. Mainly because i am familiar with it.

How bad is the compatibility and functionality with Safari? Where would i notice it? Browser(ActiveX) games? browsing? security? etc

chrome has no ads filter ..

@Regeneration: You forgot to add "IMO" in front of everything you wrote... Since this is not the way I see things, nor many other people I know.

Ive used all these browsers and see no significan difference in performance, not one thats worth basing a decision on.

Ive ran peacekeeper on them all and the difference in performance was much smaller then the chart youve got up.

Anyways, firefox is still the best who in their right mind would care about a millaseconds difference in page load time or a un-noticable difference in rendering speed

I used Intel i7 and Vista 64-bit with 4GB of RAM.

Looks like Safari is optimized for multithreading

Everything I wrote came from years of experience as end-user and webmaster. You have no idea how many times I had to play around with code just to make it work with all the browsers. Like this site for example, it should work perfectly with all the browsers.

Personally, I’d prefer Firefox over the other browsers since it fits my needs. My 2nd choice would be Safari because of the great performance. I would love to see some more performance improvements in Firefox as it’s my primary browser.

Your comment is completely stupid btw.....I will bold and colour what he said to highlight why you are stupid.

Thanks to benchmarks like these we can now say for a fact that one version is faster than another, or one browser is faster. Without it just being firefox feels faster to me etc.

It also drives the people that make these browsers to tighten up there code and not just rely on the fact that computers are fast enough to make up for slow code, which then shows itself on heavy duty websites.

being a web developer I know how you feel rege, getting cross browser compatability can be a serious pain in the ass sometimes, i find for the most part if you can get it it work properly with both IE and FF then the other browsers thend to be fine its only in rare occasions that you have to get browser specific coding for them.

What I would really like to see is an actual standard brought out so that coding for all browsers is identical instead of having to do 2 or 3 browser specific codes to get a single effect to work in all browsers, its annoying and un-necissary, this sohuld have been done a long time ago.

i use Firefox the most and Chrome sometimes

"IMO" is a useless phrase since the poster always will post his opinion about something
when a poster quotes someone else that's different

I use Safari more than anything else and I've had very few compatibility issues with it. Firefox offers the best compromise between everything in my opinion.
