AMD is scheduled to launch its 8 series chipsets, RD890 to replace the RD790 (790FX) and RS880D, in January 2010, with EVT (engineering verification test) and DVT (design verification test) silicon scheduled for June and July and mass production to begin in November 2009, according to Taiwan-based motherboard makers.
The RD890 will be matched with AMD's quad-core AM3-based processors targeting the high-end market, and supporting DDR3 memory and HyperTransport 3.0, while the RS880D integrates a RV620 GPU to supports DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, the sources pointed out. AMD also plans to announce the 785G chipset in September. The chip is currently under DVT and will enter mass production in August.
