| | | AMD Confirms Radeon HD 4890 X2 | | | 14 Comments | | | now I hate AMD with all my guts
I bought a 4870 not even 1/2 year ago and it's obsolete, WTF!
from the almost 500$ I payed, it dropped to around 400$, WTF no.2 !
from what I can get the 4890 it's just an OCed 4870, or am I wrong? | | | | Quote:

Anyway, my plan is to wait for Larabee before I get something new. And some hardware stressing game I actually enjoy playing. | | | | I would not worry about it. Your 4870 is just fine for todays games. I would not buy another upgraded card until the DX11 hardware is out. | | | | it's not about that, it's about the market (consumer) and the message they're sending
you just bought the top of the line card, good! now there's a new one (insert evil laugh) | | | | This is why i never bother with top of the line hardware , and the second reason is the money . | | | | Quote:

We are not all still riding horses, using Casio calculators, writing letters to each other.
I think this is more a case of your inexperience than fault with AMD/ATi or any other technology company. | | | | yea zme, nvidia releases new hardware at the same rate, just because its not the top offering anymore doesnt make it obsolete, your 4870 is just fine and you probably wont notice any difference between it and the 4890.
If you try to keep up with what the leading card is your not only gonna go nuts but your gonna be broke, im not a rich man so when I buy one i make sure it lasts me for atleast 3 years which i have so far been able to do just fine, no point in wasting money just because a card that one number higher then yours comes out. | | | | Few years ago i decided to never buy top hardware becouse it have not good price/performance/technology ratio, mid-end hardware is best choice. Once per year or year and half i'm buying new gpu and once per two-three years new cpu. Now i will change cpu little bit faster 'cos i will buy it in next few days or next month when i bought my 4800+ june 2008. | | | | in order for companies to maintain high levels of consumer interest they have to maintain the battle for the #1 spot in performance. It's a drag that battle filters to us the end user as a high $$$$ price tag.
If ATI did not stay in the headlines Nvidia would just eat them alive or the same in reverse if Nvidia stopped promotion of their high end cards | | | | Quote:

THe only difference between the HD4870 and the HD4890 is the higher clocks and smaller 40nm manufacturing process. Correct me if I'm wrong. | | | | haha yea i know imod, im just saying that their releasing new hardware at the same rate, not that its different lol | | | | the 275 is the newest hardware they've released in awhile.... | | | | it has a twist: Quote:
We have investigated if any of ATI’s partners will actually make an HD 4890 X2 card powered with two RV790 chips and most of them are negating that they plan do make such a card.
With a moderate clock, this card should be possible, it would draw a lot of power as HD4890 has maximal board power of 190W but still a dual card could be possible.
ATI said that it doesn’t plan to bring such a card, but we were told before that partners could do it, but partners said that the performance of dual X2 4980 card would not be enough to beat GTX 295 and therefore doesn’t make much sense to make it.
At this point we are not aware that someone will make an HD 4890 X2 card, but if the partner decides to go this direction, ATI can provide materials and some support to make such a project alive.
