While Nvidia is about to rename the GeForce 8800 GT again, it seems that the red team are not innocent as well. According to Fudzilla’s report, ATI has rebranded some of its Radeon HD 3000 products as HD 4000 products too recently. Fuad Abazovic has recently retrieved this information directly from Catalyst 9.1 installation file. The subject file is CH_75108.inf and it is currently shows 11 new Radeon HD 4000 cards.

I would like to show my concern for this matter. Like most of you, I think it is totally unfair to take old products and rebrand them as new. There is a name for this kind of business, I call it a fraud. Taking product X or Y and renaming it to make it look newer just to generate confusion among consumers is really lame and forbidden by law. Nvidia and ATI should cease renaming, or at least they should provide some kind of notification on the product's box.
