A Special Forces squad is on a routine mission when the city of Auburn is rocked by a supernatural explosion. Alma, a girl with immense power and a thirst for revenge, has unleashed her wrath upon the city and thrown it into chaos. The squad must combat enemy forces and the supernatural as they struggle to find a way to stop Alma and uncover the mysterious forces arrayed against them before it's too late.

Quote

Great sequel! Awesome first person shooter with great dynamic gameplay. If you liked the first one, you are going to like this one for sure. To be honest, it is a lot better than the first one. However, on the bad side is… I cannot find a way to disable that annoying film effect noise, the graphics are somehow poor and it stutters on my system for unknown reasons, while the framerate is high.

Try to use the latest ForceWare 181.22 WHQL driver.

Now you see why I bought an Xbox? Even hot title like FEAR 2 has issues on the PC. All this suttering is making the game unplayable... really annoying.

Also check if you haven't got any game controllers plugged in. Had the same issue with mirrors edge and the cause was my guitar hero controller which I've forgot to unplug

Just tried it, great game so far. Even better than the first one. Noticeable pausing throughout the game on a very high end gaming rig.
Quote
I have only mouse and keyboard and have installed 181.22 WHQL

Well i did have problems with first FEAR , so no difference with this one
Quote
when trying to install i get blink...dll missing errors.
Quote
nCaine i have exactly the same problems ... i find no way to solve them for now
Quote
I try to turn off D3D overrider , nhancer , use statdard settings , no luck ther so far
Quote
well they don't offer you much for a 2gb download, what a tease. enough to tell the look is updated but same game as before basically....
Quote
runs as smooth as a baby's but here
1600x1200
everything maxed
Quote
tried the demo on the pc and the 360....on the 360 graphics are a bit muddy and the game a bit clunky....much better on the pc...only problem being it seemed to freeze for a second or two when going into new parts of the game or when a new event happend
Quote
same problem as the old fear just eye candy on top of it probly makes it worse. i doubt it will be fixed in the next 2 weeks or whatever...

They should have concentrated on the PC and ported to crapbox afterwards. This is going to be one of those titles you have to wait a few months before buying. It'll definitely kick ass once the issues are resolved.

BTW: This hiccuping is noticed on ALL platforms.

Haven't noticed any problems under Windows 7 Beta 64-bit. Played it just now up to the point of finding Sgt. Fox. No hiccups, not pauses....just plain smooth and scary fun.

Funny I was using Win 7 beta 64 bit and did get the hiccups...wasn't a major problem but was noticeable....confusing

Even people with GTX 280s and 4870x2s are getting those little hiccups. It's so minor you can pretend not to notice, but it's still there.

Game runs fine here, using Windows 7 64-bit. Had to disable motion blur though, since it's caused lockups.. But remember it's still a demo, who know's they might look at feedback

i wonder if the logitech mouse bug hasn't been re-introduced.

you know, the one that robbed the original f.e.a.r.(s) of all peformance but somehow it got overlooked by EVERYONE for a couple of years...

Wasn't that an issue with setpoint that got resolved in a newer version?

yeah, but it was a long-standing, known, unresolved bug for quite some time.

i hope this dose of hiccups doesn't turn out to be something along those lines....

It's happening to everyone. Logitech, Razer, crapbrand, PCs, Consoles.

something fundamentally wrong, obviously. probably will require updates later or a delayed release date...

OK, after getting past the part where you locate Sgt. Fox, I did start noticing those 'pauses/hiccups' that everyone is talking about. What they actually look like to me are brief 'loading' pauses.

EDIT: From what I've read elsewhere, the 'hiccups/pauses' occur during the checkpoint saves. Can anyone confirm this here?

But, I did finish the demo. Not sure if this is one I'd want right away when it first gets released, though. Will likely wait until it gets a couple patches first.

Yes I think it's the autosaves. There are a lot of games that don't have a detectable autosave pause or they at least display a fat "saving checkpoint" dialog to reassure the player.

Really short demo for a 1.76GB download ! game shuttered at a few places but no major performance dip.

i've observed it pretty closely. played through about ten times now just to watch for pauses and many of them come at given intervals but no disk activity during most of those predictable pauses that are obviously save points and still many times the pauses come at random points as well with also no visible disk activity... it seems to be particularly effected when doing a 360 degree view, the first time, in any given arena in the game...

i think this game is just deep-down fucked and somehow these pauses have more to do with eye candy. this game seems to be a real work-out for the gfx card despite the high fps. it really makes my 4850 draw a lot of currrent, perhaps more than usual, the fan in my old ups comes on a lot while running this game...
