| | | Microsoft to Release Windows 7 Beta on Friday | Windows 7 was one of the dominating topics in Microsoft’s pre-CES keynote and it seems that the company is on track top deliver the software later this year. The first beta of the software has been made available late Wednesday to TechNet subscribers; a public beta will follow on Friday. Despite the fact that it is still a beta, Ballmer said that he encourages “all users to download and install” the operating system.
“We are on track to deliver the best version of Windows ever,” Ballmer said. He promised that Windows 7 will boot faster, provide more battery life in notebooks, run on netbooks and show fewer alerts. Besides the features shown previously, an on-stage demonstration of the operating system included a new window tiling functionality, which allows users to put two windows next to each other while Windows automatically snaps them to the left and right edge so the content of each Windows can be compared side-by-side.

anyway it looks like a shit
i hope they fixed vista errors | | | | Who cares what it looks like as long as it works! | | | | I've never tried a beta OS before but do fancy trying this one...will it have restrictions time limits limited functionality etc or would I be able to use it as XP replacement on my gaming system. | | | | Gen., 7 looks better then vista :P | | | | I had a pre-BETA built to work with a while ago and I wasn't satisfied with it at all
they removed some stuff and others they modified without the option to customize
the driver architecture is a darn lie (not all Vista drivers work with W7 and need a special build)
I really hope this BETA won't disappoint me | | | | Beta builds require drivers compiled in managed mode.
Windows 7 final will work with vista drivers just fine. | | | | Squall ... no
they advertise a product and I found it's not true
as for going retail; by that time we will have special drivers build for W7
and the problems I found were with some sound and video drivers; the test wasn't done on my home PC | | | | they aren't advertising any product, you can't advertise an unreleased product. | | | | oh really?~?
so what is this: Quote: |

| | | | | I downloaded and tried the most popular windows 7 theme packs (complete with the iconized task bar and glowing orb thingy). I think they all lasted about 5 minutes before I reverted to good old windows classic. | | | | Unix, i'd rather use a windows blind theme then luna/aero, windowblinds since v5 is much faster, and uses less resources. | | | | Okay so I've failed at the first hurdle....thought this was going to be available today but I can't find it on microsofts site...any ideas?...Oh just found this guide: http://blog.wired.com/business/2009/...-get-your.html
Seems I wont be able to do it as I'm running XP....you need vista sp1 |

Didn't notice any performance difference apart from the fact that my eyes were castrating themselves with agony at the ugliness of what lay before them. | | | | Apparently Microsoft’s IIS webserver is not so perfect as they claim, I'm unable to access Microsoft’s Windows 7 beta page for a few hours now. | | | | Yeah, I get a "Server too Busy" message after a few moments...
Microsoft either underestimated the interest in Windows 7 Beta, or, they underestimated the unhappiness of those using Vista.....or BOTH! (Although, I don't count myself in the unhappy with Vista crowd.) | | | | |
