Nvidia ForceWare 185.20
Posted by Regeneration on January 5th, 2009, 10:39 AM

A new beta ForceWare driver has been leaked to the web recently. The word on the street claims that Nvidia introduced a new ambient occlusion feature in this set. This driver offers support for the GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 series (Or whatever Nvidia is calling it now). This driver is available for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, 2003, MCE, Vista and their 64-bit versions as well. Remember! This is an unofficial leaked beta! Use at your own risk.

I heard these have problems (artifacts, severe performance regressions) with older games. What have you tested on?

this build got some serious issues, BF2 i got the famous crash to desktop.
the IQ is nice you got a extra setting ambient occlusion.
and that is a card killer my fps drops from 85 to 30ish.

Ambient Occulsion looks good in games like Far Cry or Crysis but as with most features of this type there is a performance hit

The currently standing WHQL driver (180.48) is also a pile of biodegradable organic waste. I'm still on 178.13 waiting for the right one.

It's not just the drivers but Nvid's cards that are piles of waste.

i'm actually quite happy with present 180.48, yeah they could be a bit better (like all video drivers) but overall good performance and no major issues to complain about.

180.48 had some regressions that I wasn't happy about.

The new drivers fixed hard lock issues I was having with my 8800 GTs with any of the other 180.xx and 181.xx drivers and also allowed me to SLI with my x58 motherboard. I couldn't be happier.

Also, if you're having performance issues, try installing the physx driver manually. I noticed water in WoW was killing my computer because the driver setup didn't install the physx component and performance drivers component.

since when does World of wankers use physx?
