We finally got our hands on the MSI X58 Platinum motherboard. This version is not their enthusiast model... the MSI X58 Eclispe, which we've heard so much about. The main difference is that the Platinum version aimed at the mainstream market and supports ATI's Crossfire only, while the Eclipse version is more highend and feature support for both Nvidia's SLI and ATI's Crossfire configuration.
In the past, MSI have always produced very good motherboards for the mainstream users, but recently they've introduced a new line of motherboards called the "Gaming Series". These motheboards feature a whole host of new and exciting technologies. Take for example their innovative DrMOS feature, which includes variety of otpions for power saving, overclocking and increasing performance. They've really got stuck into the gaming and enthusiast market, and it looks like its paying off.
Intel's new Core i7 processors and its accompanying X58 chipset, have made plenty of headlines in recent weeks. The new processor is equipped with an internal memory controller, which helps reduce memory latencies and boosts overall performance. It was welcomed by many enthusiasts, but it also received some negative response from mainstream users who question about Intel's intentions.
