| | | Avoid Microsoft Keyboards Like The Plague | It is not a secret that Microsoft’s hardware division knows how to make high quality accessories, such as keyboards, mice and other accessories. Their products are really popular! In fact, their keyboards are selling like hot cakes in almost every country. However, it seems they really messed up with their latest keyboards. Recently we tested four of their latest USB keyboards and we experienced keystroke lags on all of them.
It seems that Microsoft has added some kind of key locking mechanism. This issue won’t be noticed under regular usage, but if you’re playing PC games such as first person shooters, sports and other games that require you to hold down several keys simultaneously, the keyboards will likely to lock down. The following keyboards were tested and found affected by this issue:
* Wireless Keyboard 6000
* Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000
* Natural Ergonomic Desktop 4000
* Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000
We have emailed Microsoft regarding this issue and asked what is being done to address this issue. However, Microsoft’s representative refused to comment on this article and denied this report claimed that these keyboards aren't meant for gaming. So, if you are a gamer - you should avoid Microsoft’s keyboards like the plague.

| | | | 11 Comments | | | Personally, I've found the MS-made/branded keyboard too pricey for my tastes. Never owned one. | | | | The same thing has been present in most of their Wireless Keyboards for the last few years. I don't find this to be true with the Ergo 4000 USB series, which follows a layout that I've become accustomed to after 13 years. Sadly I can hardly type with a standard keyboard. | | | | meh, m$ keyboards are over priced, plus what the hell is the point of a wireless keyboard? | | | | Quote:

I do have one right now that I use for my 2nd PC which is used mainly for a printer/scanner server as the scanner isn't supported under Vista. But, if anyone wants to play games on it, I have several wired keyboards to be used.
But, as for wireless keyboards for gaming: I don't think it's just a MS issue. | | | | Quote:

| Quote | | | | | I was using a multimedia keyboard from iKey for 4 years then about 4 months back I got the logitech g15 and I have to say I am impressed with it excellent build quality and good responsiveness , oh yeah looks good too. My brother users a Logitech bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse some 3000 series it is horrible the mouse lags and also when typing the lag is very bad , you have to keep resetting the keyboard and mouse and it will work fine for sometime and then start acting up again .
When buying I would always suggest buy wireless stuff with RF technology and not bluetooth. I wouldnt be surprised if the keyboards mentioned by Reg are bluetooth. | | | | Bluetooth is a RF based protocol. They are one and the same. | | | | I have a MS Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 set since 1 year and I never had any problem with it. Only for the first few days I suffered some interferences like while playing a shooter my character was stopping while running witch was really annoying. But I just had to place the receiver in the right spot and now I don't have any problems at all. | | | | Quote:

Because RF is really fast and bluetooth there is a noticeable lag. | | | | When the OP mentioned "key locking" I, at first, read it as "key logging", which would be a horrifyingly plausible thing for M$ to do. | | | | I use Natural Ergonomic keyboard 4000 from MS over a year without any issues. For me it is very good keyboard, especially in games :-) | | |
