| | | Microsoft to Deliver Vista SP2 Before Windows 7 | Microsoft is preparing new service packs for Windows Vista and its server counterpart, Windows Server 2008. The pair of service packs, according to sources, will likely land before the release of Windows 7 which is set to debut in late 2009 or early 2010. Microsoft confirmed that the project was in the works, with a Vista spokesman saying, "Microsoft is working on a second Windows Vista service pack (Windows Vista SP2) and will share more details in the coming months."
Windows Vista already saw the release of its first service pack in May of this year. The first release was marred by compatibility difficulties, which forced Microsoft to take it offline for a short time. Amid slower than-hoped-for adoption growth, Microsoft launched a reinvigorated push to convince people to adopt Windows Vista, highlighted by its "I'm a PC" commercials.
Reports indicate that Microsoft is hard at work preparing the second generation service packs, to help further this new campaign. It has reportedly delivered a beta of the Vista pack to select hardware and software partners. This is similar to its current distribution method for early builds of Windows 7. Microsoft also posted a placeholder article for Vista SP2 on its Knowledge Base site.

It is usually and error between the keyboard and the chair. I hate to be harsh but it is true. I use Vista X64 and people who don't use Vista and have never used it are the ones bitching. I have had not major compatiblity issues that could not be easily fixed. Matter of fact most people I know use Vista. Hell my 9 year old uses it and I have not hear her complain about any problems or bugs.
Again stupid people who A. Don't know what they are talking about. Or B. Tried to install it on a 10 year old piece of crap Pentium III machine and wonder why it does not work? Duhhh.. |

| Quote | | | | | I was that type of guy 4 months before... just because i readed vista was crap i was doing propanganda that vista was crap... is the same at my job... all the consumers who come for buy an computer , everybody told me why dyou dont have any XP systems? They say vista is crap because they didn't tryed it or they are ignorant. It's really odd... if we go 8 years back in the O/S history with Windows XP it was the same... They was all sayin XP was crap , but now it's odd because XP is acclaimed as the best O/S ever.... so just give time to M$ to fix the problems as they did for XP.Anyway W7 will be on the same architecture as Vista. So i hope you , all the readers will not hope that W7 will extraordinary better than Vista , if you have in mind everything of vista is an piece of CRAP! | | | | Im saying Vista is crap, and im currently using it.
Vista = Shit.
Bring on Vienna, it will be what Vista was supposed to be. Vista = ME 2.0
Vienna = XP 2.0 | | | | im using Vista.
its shit, its worse then windows me was, atleast it connected to a network instantly when plugged into one. | | | | What is the point to buy Vista now that it's stable if in a year W7 goes out?
XP works just fine so I'll wait for W7 to be stable.... Hopping they won't come with something else behind :S | | | | I had more problems in Xp then Vista, When they launched vista in Jan last year I bought it, The only problem I found in the beginning was drivers but now drivers have come along way and Sp1, Vista is the best OS I have ever had ONLY 1 PROBLEM they need to speed it up a bit other wise no problems
I hope SP2 Has DX11 and performance boost | | | | Squall_Leonhart,
I have to agree with you Windows ME sucked! But then again your probably trying to put Vista on that same computer that Windows ME came pre-installed on! Tool! | | | | no, im running XP on that former ME computer comfortably with 3 second boot times., thats a Duron 1100 with 386mbs of ram and a KT133 mainboard.
Compared to a C2D @ 2.16GHZ 2GB's of ram.... running Vista, the Duron is faster.
Consider your OS shit when a nearly 10 year old system loads the former OS faster. | | | | Damn squall, either youve got that copy of xp so stripped down that its not even booting the shell or you never learned to tell time cuz 3 seconds is impossible.
Anyways, vista sucks. ive used pretty much every OS you can think of and I agree with squall's comparison of vista = me 2.0, if ms had a shred of inteligence they would have said screw the vista sp2 and poured all resources into vienna, as soon as vienna is released vista is just gonna become a bad memory(much like me), its a wate of time, just like amd trying to fix te phenom | | | | well 3 seconds ... lol, ok its more abouts 5.
by Bootup, i mean from the Win XP boot screen, to when it reaches the login screen.
It passes 3 times which is roughly 5 seconds, then login screen.
And actually, its mostly Default. I just played upon a trick of NFTS.
The trick being the MFT tends to be the slow point.
What i did was copied the XP install from an old Quantum 4300 RPM drive, to a WD 7200 RPM drive, had to start an xp install to write the boot sector, but its quick, i did the same with an AthlonXP system which had slow boot times and got the same boost, luckily seagate disk wizard for dos makes the partition bootable by default :P so all i did was use BartPE (of which i need to make a new copy since my ones missing normaliz.dll heh) copy everything to a new drive, format the old drive, repartition it with diskwizard, which formatted again with a bootable partition, then copied it all back.
If i had a second hdd i could probably do the same on this vista machine and see if it benefits at all... | | | | theres a trick to it haha
use bartpe and copy the entire drive to another, format the first drive, copy it all back and windows should boot like a fresh install.
if windows doesn't boot (usuallycoz the boot sector is not written) just use the xp install disk to start a new install but cancel it then remove it from the boot ini.. though thats only needed for partitioned drives.. since fixboot doesn't work on them. | | | | I use both XP and Vista. I've had my fair share of problems with both. My main vista problems have been poorly written drivers! | | | | Vista does not suck at all for me. I'm using the 64-bit business edition, no bugs, no compatibility problems, and because it's 64bit it's much faster than XP actually. DX10 works great, I wouldn't go back to XP. Some people do have problems, but thats no reason to make a general statement and say that Vista sucks. | | | | I'm using Vista 32-bit Home Premium now for a year. It's been a good experience for me and I rarely boot into XP anymore.
BTW, according to this link at SoftPedia, Vista SP-2 AND Windows 7 are due by the end of June, 2009: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Vista...09-95990.shtml | | | | somehow i still don't feel like i'm missing anything by staying with xp32... | | | | I like Vista, always have since it was released. No going back to old XP, good riddens! | | | | thats a cool little trick squall, ill have to remember that one
i really didnt care much for vista, im running a fresh sp3 install of xp pro, got it all tweaked the way i like it, runs like a dream, they couldnt pay me to trade this for vista | | | | Mac sux big hairy ballz vista is where it is at its compatible with everything | | |
