Logitech G9 Mouse Review
Posted by Regeneration on September 30th, 2008, 02:56 PM

The packaging was actually folded, so when we opened the package we had to open it like a book. Once fully open we find the second of the two interchangeable grips and a brief description of the G9’s features. One thing that was mysteriously absent was a copy of their SetPoint software. It’s no big deal considering most people today have broadband Internet and after considering the fact that our G9 was a press sample, this could explain the missing CD. Anyways, what we did receive was the G9 laser mouse, a manual, a package of weights, and the two interchangeable comfort grips.

The two comfort grips offer very different feels to the G9. The wide load grip has a throw back feel to it. It reminds us of an older style three button mouse from ten years ago. If you look at the wide grip it is raised in the palm area and has a moulded flare on the left side that supports the thumb during usage. The surface of the wide grip has a rather smooth satin type finish to it. The precision grip is far more streamlined and has a much lower profile then the wide load grip. The surface is not smooth on the precision grip; instead the surface is granular feeling. The granular feel of the material is more suited to precise working with the G9, perhaps graphic editing or other applications that require precision mouse movements. The images below shows both grips and an old school 3 button PS/2 mouse for comparison.

If you remove the comfort grip from the body of the G9 you see that it is rather compact in size. There are the two side buttons and a small silver metal post on either side of the body that hold the comfort grips in place. When you press the button on the rear of the G9 it retracts the two small metal posts just enough so you can easily lift off the grip. Just above the grip release there is the storage area that holds the weight that we have added to the body of the G9. After experimenting with weight combinations we settled on 22 grams, which seems to be a comfortable amount to work with.

Desperately needs a closer/higher res shot from the top (mainly the area around the left mouse button). If you still have the sample that is.

The G9 is looking great... but there is no way I'll spend 100 bucks on a mouse.

Logitech can't have been too pleased about that. How on earth did it end up smashing into a concrete floor? It would be in the packaging if it was being transported so the only other possibility is gamer's rage...

I'll have to take your word for it since it certainly doesn't look comfortable. I'll have to agree with blindartist on this, it doesn't look sleek, stylish, elegant or even normal, it's ugly and expensive to be honest. However performance is more important but is it truely worth that price?

To be honest it just got knocked off the desk and the floor is concrete. It still worked to some degree but the mouse pointer would disappear or freeze randomly making it un useable

the low profile grip i found very comfortable to be honest not so much the larger rounded grip

Thats ok since You have option to choose from 2 shapes I also like it better , I think thats all peole with big hands will like it better... A for the look , I got use to it and now i find it quite nice :-) Anyway I used Logitech 510 518 G5 Razer 4000DPi and I say it loud G9 is the most comfortable and has 4 BIG pros: great scroll, pefrormance, superb drivers and big sliders. As for price if You would get it in Your hands You would see huge difference beetwen cheaper mouces and this one(materials, max elegance you can get using plastic:-))

No mouse will feel more comfortable to me as the Razer Lachesis. I actually tried the G9 and don't like it.

Any mouse other than your current one will initially feel weird when you first try it since you're used to a mouse with a different shape/size, unless it's downright uncomfortable you may get used to it's unique feel/performance after a while.

I need a new mouse pad and I'm looking at Razer's offerings. It's not that I like Razer at all, it's the fact that they have a branch here whereas their competitor's don't.
