Google Chrome Captures 1% Market Share In 9 Hours
Posted by Regeneration on September 4th, 2008, 05:47 PM

Google's new browser has zoomed past 1% market share in just ten hours after its release yesterday at 3:02 p.m. EDT and reached almost 1.5% earlier today. Although it is too early to tell which competing browser makers were hit by Google’s new software, the initial numbers numbers indicate that Chrome is off to a good start.

According to Net Applications, Chrome crossed 0.5% just two hours after its release. At midnight (EDT), Chrome surpassed 1% market share. The browser hit 1.48% share of the browsing market at 4 a.m., eventually stabilizing at about 1% over the course of the following hours. According to the data published by the market research firm, Chrome held 1.06% at the time of this writing.

Watch out! Google installs some crapware called GoogleUpdate.exe. Even if you uninstall Chrome, its still running.

Thats true, now that you post this I found out a process called GoogleUpdate.exe (32bit) running in the task manager.

How did I remove it?
Here:

Start Menu -> Run -> msconfig

Stop it from auto running when booting in Windows

Then you should delete the executable to make sure it wont run.
Open an explorer window then type in the adress bar

X:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Google\Update
then delete the GoogleUpdate.exe
Where X is the driver where Windows is installed and <USER> is your user.
Note: This is for Windows Vista only, for XP there must be something similar.

geee i wonder if this marketshare boost is due to the fact that its featured on the main google search page, plus it doesnt have 1% market share, it has 1% of people trying it out, .9% of which will likely go back to their old browser

and yes it installed google update, and googleinstaller seems to want to continually do stuff, my firewall keeps catching it

That 1% is only Windows based users, wait till it becomes available for Mac and Linux users, the numbers will more than likely keep increasing then.

that exe is installed even if U install google toolbar
and can always can be blocked from firewall

that 1% is people trying the browser for the first time, 90% of them will likely go back to their old favorite, its waaay to early to try and judge market penetration, maybe in a couple months

maybe when they release a stable version rather than a beta version then I think we can judge.
