Mozilla Labs considers grafting IM onto Firefox
Posted by Chaos on August 8th, 2008, 02:26 PM

With Mozilla Labs in the news recently, even if it's for bold ideas that have yet to find their way to source code, the organization is taking advantage of this added attention to float an idea for a possible future Firefox permutation: What if instant messaging, RSS, and other concurrent textual feeds such as Twitter, were embedded in the Web browser in such a way that any kind of personal message could be made to appear through a single channel?

I'm against adding unnecessary bloat. Specially since the majority of people will NOT use it.

I also don't like that idea.
I think they should create an extension and might include it in setup AS optional component.

i was gonna say the same thing, if its optional, like a extention you can download then sure but if its built right in then hell no

seems like the general feelings, I would hate to see it in Firefox, if they want to blaot something they should bloat Sea Monkey their suite of tools

Same here , i need just basics , fast , stable , flashget + flashgot and 3 more plugin`s and thats it .

in this case one must ask why they not simply merge with Miranda / Pidgin (open source IM clients) and Google Talk , also they should use Jabber
and if they started with vorbis (OGG and Theora) so they should use Speex for chatting

no they sho do none of that :P

they should scrap the whole half baked idea and not add more useless bloating to the browser.

Besides whats the use of a im in a browser anyways? i dont have the browser open all the time, and when you close it you close the im, id rather just use a seperate program, much better then ruining a great browser with a useless im

it would probably be detachable just like the download bar.

it probably would be optional

they even put an IM into lineage2 and that didn't bloat.

I think you guys are just pulling randomness out of your anal crevice imo. :P
