Nvidia 790i board pulled by makers
Posted by Chaos on August 1st, 2008, 11:42 AM

THE NVIDIA IMPLOSION continues, and this time it is not a crusty old product but their top-of-the-line 790i chipset products that are vanishing from manufacturers lineups. They went *poof* from DFI, Foxconn and Gigabyte. In case you have been living under a rock lately, Nvidia GPUs and chipsets have been crapping out at an amazingly high rate of speed.

As long as the 780 series are still being supported I couldn't care less. It took me a month to get my 780 m/b working optimally - I have to say it works like a peach now and i'm very pleased with the performance.

To be honest I'm surprised anyone at all in their right mind went out and bought a 790 series m/b when you have to spend an extra $300 on top just for DDR3 memory

My NF590 has or should I say had (I'm upgrading soon) zero issues and load temp is at 39c. This is on the AMD platform so there's less room to screw up what with the memory controller being on the cpu etc.

I did have a brand new 8800GT fail in less than 2 weeks. So I do think Nvidia is having problems with their chips. But I'm not having issues with my 780i motherboard. (Well the Nvidia XP drivers for my board do NOT support SATA ROM drives... but that's a "known" issue. It's been that way for ages!)

The thing that bugs me about the video card issue is that the replacement they sent me has a different colored PCB and a slightly different colored shroud. Then again I don't have a window in this case so it's less annoying that it could be...
